Two stories dominated Polish news on Tuesday 13 October and into Wednesday 14 October 2026: charges against a man accused of planning an attack on the prime minister, and the discovery of drone-like wreckage on the Baltic coast. This brief is based on reports from Polish and international outlets, named below. Where a detail comes from unnamed sources, we say so.

Nine charges over an alleged plot against Donald Tusk

Prosecutors in Warsaw charged a 66-year-old man, identified under Polish privacy law only as Krzysztof N., with nine offences. According to Notes from Poland and Rzeczpospolita, citing prosecution spokesman Piotr Antoni Skiba, the most serious charge is preparing to forcibly remove a constitutional authority of the state using explosives. Rzeczpospolita reports the charge carries a sentence of 2 to 15 years in prison. The other eight charges include publicly calling for violence to influence political decisions, promoting an ideology aimed at seizing power by force, praising destructive acts of war and inciting hatred on national, racial, ethnic and political grounds.

Notes from Poland says the security services announced on Sunday that they had "credible" information about a "high probability" of an attempt on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, and that the man was detained in Wrocław the same day. Skiba said a dozen or so improvised explosive devices resembling fragmentation grenades were found at his home, along with a crossbow and other weapons. He said the case began when an anonymous person sent the State Protection Service a recording of a conversation with the suspect. According to Notes from Poland, the suspect has pleaded not guilty and there is so far no indication that foreign intelligence services inspired him.

Prosecutors have asked a court to keep him in pre-trial detention, citing, in Skiba's words as reported by Rzeczpospolita, the risk of a serious crime against life and health. Notes from Poland also reports a separate case: a 46-year-old man in Oborniki was detained on suspicion of publicly calling for the murder of Tusk and parliament speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty. The charges are allegations. No court has ruled on them.

Drone-like wreckage found on a beach in Karwia

On the evening of 13 October a passer-by found a partly buried object that looked like a drone on the beach at Karwia, in the Puck county of the Pomeranian region. TVP World and trojmiasto.pl report that police cordoned off the area and that army bomb-disposal teams, prosecutors and Internal Security Agency officers came to the scene. The local portal Goniec adds that a 300-metre safety zone was set up.

The Military Police said late on Tuesday that it was investigating the discovery of fragments of an "unidentified flying object". The object is described as about two metres long. Officials have not said what it is, where it came from or how it reached the beach. Goniec reports that RMF FM, citing unofficial sources, says the debris may belong to the Polish military. That has not been confirmed.

TVP World notes that the find comes amid concern over stray drones and missiles entering Polish territory because of the war in Ukraine, and that a suspected Russian military drone washed up on another stretch of the Baltic coast last month.
