Bed Linen Sizes in Poland: Covers, Pillowcases and Sheets

The essentials: Measure the duvet, pillows and mattress separately. Match each labelled dimension, count the included pillowcases and check fitted-sheet depth. A bedding-set photograph does not establish its contents or fit.

Buying bed linen in Poland starts with the objects you already have: a duvet, pillows and a mattress. The bed frame's advertised size does not answer every question. A coordinated packet can look complete while containing only covers, and a fitted sheet can have the right width and length but the wrong depth for your mattress.

This guide explains Polish product words, dimensions and set contents. It uses actual IKEA Poland listings as worked examples, not a national sizing standard or a recommended shopping list. Photos illustrate linen and handling, not the cited products, their material composition or their dimensions.

Separate the duvet from its cover

Kołdra is the duvet itself. Poszwa na kołdrę is its cover. Those are different purchases, even if the packaging photograph shows a fully made bed. A cover listing should not be read as a promise that the duvet filling is supplied inside it.

Start by measuring or reading the label on your existing duvet. Its width and length are the dimensions the cover needs to match. Do not select a duvet cover solely because a bed frame or mattress has a similar-looking number in its name.

If you are buying both items, confirm the specified dimensions of each rather than relying on single, double or another broad bed description. The actual centimetre measurements give you a clearer comparison than an assumed translation between national sizing names.

Separate the pillow from its case

Poduszka is a pillow. Poszewka na poduszkę is a pillowcase, often shortened to poszewka where the context is clear. A pillowcase measurement refers to that item, not to the duvet cover alongside it or to the size of the entire set.

Check your pillow's actual dimensions. A pillowcase included with a duvet cover may not match the pillows you already own. A coordinated colour is useful only after the physical fit is right; the product photograph cannot tell you whether your own pillow will fit.

Do not assume every Polish bedding set includes the same pillow size. The cited retailer offers specific combinations, not a countrywide standard. If you are replacing only one part of a set, keep the pillow measurement separate from the duvet measurement in your shopping note.

Read the slash-separated measurements as different items

IKEA's cited ÄNGSLILJA example is labelled 150x200/50x60 cm. Its detailed dimensions identify a 150-by-200-centimetre duvet cover and a 50-by-60-centimetre pillowcase. The slash separates the item measurements; it is not a third dimension of a single piece of fabric.

That distinction matters when a shortened product title is your first view of the offer. Open the detailed dimensions and contents before deciding that the packet matches your bed. A familiar number at the beginning of a title does not settle the rest of the set.

Write down the dimensions with labels: duvet cover, pillowcase and sheet. A bare string of numbers is easy to misread later, especially if someone else is shopping. Naming the item beside the measurement reduces an avoidable mistake without requiring a complicated sizing chart.

Count the pillowcases instead of assuming a set is complete

The 150x200 ÄNGSLILJA example specifies one pillowcase. The cited 200x200 version specifies two pillowcases, each with its own 50x60 dimensions. The change in count is visible in the product name and detailed measurements, not something the shopper should infer from a styled bed photograph.

Read the actual contents whenever a set is described as a komplet or a collection. A packet can combine a duvet cover and pillowcases without including a sheet. Coordinated products displayed nearby may be sold separately even if the overall room image looks like one purchase.

For your own list, count pieces as well as dimensions. If you need two pillowcases and one fitted sheet, confirm each item explicitly. A three-piece description is not useful until you know which three pieces it counts and whether their measurements match your bedding.

Understand prześcieradło and prześcieradło z gumką

Prześcieradło is a sheet. The added wording z gumką identifies an elasticated or fitted sheet. That feature affects how you compare it with the mattress: the mattress width and length matter, and so does the thickness the product is designed to cover.

A flat sheet and a fitted sheet should not be treated as identical simply because they share a colour or a product family. Read the actual construction and dimensions. The suitable size for one form is not automatically a reliable choice for the other.

This guide does not provide a universal allowance formula for flat sheets. If you want a particular tuck or arrangement, use the selected product's dimensions and the way your bed is made. Do not turn one retailer's fitted-sheet example into a rule for every sheet sold in Poland.

Measure mattress depth as a separate requirement

The cited DVALA fitted sheet is 160x200 cm and states a maximum mattress thickness of 26 cm. Those are separate checks. Matching the 160x200 footprint alone does not establish that it is suitable for every mattress or sleep-surface arrangement of that width and length.

Use the actual surface the sheet must cover when establishing your measurements. If your arrangement includes another layer, do not silently ignore it and assume the advertised depth will still be sufficient. Compare your real requirement with the manufacturer's stated fit rather than guessing from a photograph.

The 26-centimetre figure belongs to that DVALA product. It is not a standard depth guaranteed by the words z gumką. A different fitted sheet may have another limit or construction, so read its own specification even when the headline width and length are the same.

Do not confuse product dimensions with package dimensions

Retail pages can list both the linen's dimensions and the folded packet's width, height and length. IKEA's product pages separate Wymiary from Opakowanie. The packet dimensions describe how the item is packed, not the size of the duvet, pillow or mattress it will cover.

This is an easy error when reading quickly on a phone. A folded package may show a number that looks plausible as a small textile measurement. Find the section that names the actual cover or sheet before copying a dimension into your comparison.

The same principle applies to weight. A shipping or package weight does not identify fabric dimensions or prove the number of pillowcases. Use the relevant labelled field for each question instead of treating every number on the listing as interchangeable product information.

Check fastenings and construction after the size

The cited ÄNGSLILJA cover describes plastic snaps at the bottom, while its pillowcase uses an envelope closure. These are product-specific construction details. They can affect your preference, but they do not change the need to match the actual cover and pillowcase dimensions first.

If a particular fastening matters, read the selected colour and size variant's information rather than assuming every item with a similar appearance has the same construction. The styling photograph may not show the closure clearly enough to settle that question.

This guide does not rank fastenings or promise that one lasts longer. The useful point is to distinguish what you can verify from the page from what you merely prefer. Keep the actual dimensions and contents ahead of an attractive colour or a broad material adjective.

Keep material and care information attached to the chosen item

Read the selected product's material and care information once the fit is clear. The cited examples include their own composition and washing instructions. Those details belong to those products, not to every duvet cover, fitted sheet or cotton item on the Polish market.

Do not infer the care instructions from the photograph or colour. A matching-looking item from another range can have different requirements. Nor should a general shopping guide replace the supplied care label with a made-up national washing temperature for bed linen.

If you are buying coordinated pieces separately, compare each piece's actual care information. A shared colour name does not establish that every component has identical composition or instructions. This keeps the task about buying compatible items rather than relying on an assumed complete-set promise.

Build a labelled measurement note before shopping

A useful note records duvet width and length, each pillow's width and length, and mattress width, length and depth. It also records how many covers, pillowcases and sheets you need. That is more useful in a shop than remembering only that the bed is a double.

When comparing an offer, match each line of your note with the corresponding product field. If a required measurement is missing, establish it before treating the product as a fit. Do not allow a matching pillowcase size to distract from a mismatched duvet cover or sheet depth.

You can then choose colour, material and closure from products that actually meet your requirements. That order avoids buying a visually coordinated packet whose contents do not solve the original problem. Bed-linen shopping becomes a short set of labelled comparisons, not a guess about what a national bed-size name means.

If you are replacing linen in a furnished flat, establish which bedding belongs to you and which belongs to the accommodation before discarding or substituting anything. A size check can proceed without assuming ownership of the existing duvet, pillows or covers.

Frequently asked questions

Does a duvet-cover set include a duvet and sheet?

Do not assume so. Read the actual contents; the cited examples identify duvet covers and pillowcases, not a complete made bed.

Is mattress width and length enough for a fitted sheet?

No. Check its stated mattress-depth limit too. The cited DVALA example specifies up to26cm, not a universal fitted-sheet standard.
