The Gdańsk Resident Card (Gdańska Karta Mieszkańca) is a city card that gives people who live in Gdańsk free entry to the main city institutions once a year, discounts at around 200 partners, cheaper parking at selected car parks and a way to use city transport and the library. The card is free and the yearly Resident Package costs 1 zł, according to the city's card service. Foreigners can get it with a residence card that shows a Gdańsk address, or with other proof that they live in the city. This guide uses the official Gdańsk Resident Card FAQ at jestemzgdanska.pl and the card's news page. Check the service for the latest rules, because offers and opening hours change.

What the card gives you

According to the official FAQ, with the Resident Card you can, for example:

  • use free entry once a year to the most important Gdańsk institutions,
  • get discounts of up to 70% at nearly 200 partners,
  • buy tickets to city events at a discount,
  • add a package of free rides for your child for the school year, so that the child can use Gdańsk buses and trams run by ZTM for free,
  • load the card with paid, named period tickets for public transport and with them travel free by SKM, PKM and Polregio trains within the Gdańsk city limits,
  • buy period and day tickets in the "Jestem z Gdańska" app and show them during ticket inspection,
  • pay less for parking at selected car parks in Gdańsk,
  • borrow and return books at the Voivodeship and City Public Library in Gdańsk with the app, report issues to the Gdańsk Contact Centre and pay taxes,
  • collect points and win prizes in competitions,
  • vote in the Civic Budget in a convenient and secure way.

If you are entitled to free rides in ZTM, you can add the document that gives you the concession to the card, and then show only the card during inspection.

Is it free?

The card itself is free. The FAQ says the paid items are the packages, such as the Resident Package at 1 zł a year, and a duplicate card. A duplicate costs 20 zł.

The Resident Package activates the card for a calendar year. The city's news item about the 2026 package says that without it the card is not valid and cannot be used. You add the package by submitting and paying an application online.

Who can get it

An adult can get the card for 1 zł if he or she meets at least one condition and can show a document that proves it. The official list includes:

  • confirmation of permanent registration in Gdańsk, not older than 3 years, which gives entitlement for 3 years,
  • confirmation of temporary registration in Gdańsk (not for boarding schools), valid for the dates on the registration but no longer than 3 years,
  • a residence card for a foreigner showing an address in Gdańsk. For permanent residence, the entitlement is for at most 3 years. For temporary residence, it is for the validity of the document, but no longer than 3 years,
  • a rental contract for a flat or house in Gdańsk, for the dates in the contract but no longer than 3 years,
  • utility contracts, in place of bills, unless the bill shows a contract end date,
  • proof of paying tax at the Gdańsk tax office (a PIT 37, PIT 38, PIT 36, PIT 28, PIT 36L, PIT 16A or PIT 40A that shows the tax was settled in Gdańsk), valid until 10 May of the following year. A PIT-11 from an employer does not count, because it is only an information document,
  • a decision on property tax for a flat or house in Gdańsk, valid for one year from the date of issue,
  • an extract from the land and mortgage register showing ownership of a flat or house in Gdańsk, not older than a month, for 3 years,
  • a certificate of living in the Gdańsk boarding house or in a student dormitory of a university in Gdańsk.

For a newcomer, a rental contract or a residence card with a Gdańsk address are the most practical documents.

Cards for children

Minors can use the card if their legal representative (mother, father or legal guardian) is an entitled person, with at least one of the documents above in his or her own name and with a Gdańsk address. A minor cannot open a user account or submit a paper application alone. The parent creates a Family Account in the card system or submits a paper application at the service centre, pays for all requested cards, verifies with the right document and collects the cards. The child does not need an individual e-mail address. One person can collect the cards for the whole family, with printed purchase confirmations.

How to apply and collect the card

You can apply online at jestemzgdanska.pl, pay by online transfer, and collect the card at the Resident Card Service Centre. You can also apply on paper at the centre and get a card without a photo on the spot. A card with a photo or with FALA system support is sent by post to the address added to your card account.

Practical tips

  • Ask your landlord for a rental contract that names you and shows the address, and keep a copy for the card application.
  • Check the dates on your document. The entitlement can be shorter than 3 years.
  • Add the Resident Package for the new year in December or January, so the card stays valid.
  • Use the free yearly entries early, so you do not miss them.
