The Best Grocery Delivery Apps in Poland for English-Speaking Expats

The essentials: Grocery delivery in Poland splits into marketplace apps (Glovo, Wolt) for fast small baskets, dark stores (Wolt Market, Bolt Market) for curated quick range, and full online supermarkets (Frisco) for the weekly shop at shelf prices. Most expat households mix the two models by basket size.

Cooking at home is where a Polish budget stretches furthest, and you do not need a car, a big supermarket or much Polish to keep a full fridge. Grocery delivery in Poland splits into three models - marketplace apps that courier shopping from existing stores, instant-delivery dark stores, and full online supermarkets with scheduled windows - and between them they cover every major city and most smaller ones. Here is what each option actually does, based on the services' own sites, checked October 21, 2026.

First, the three models

Marketplace apps (Glovo, Wolt). You order inside one app; a courier picks your items from a partner supermarket or shop and brings them, typically within the hour. Best for top-up shops and normal weekly baskets in small quantities.

Dark stores (Wolt Market, Bolt Market). The platform runs its own small delivery-only warehouses with a fixed, curated range. Fewer products than a supermarket, but fast and predictable.

Online supermarkets (Frisco). A real full-range supermarket that only exists online: you book a delivery window and get a proper weekly shop, including bulky items, at supermarket prices.

Most households settle into a mix: a weekly big shop from an online supermarket plus marketplace apps for the gaps. The dividing line that matters is not brand loyalty but basket size: the same order that costs you a small premium on a marketplace app costs almost nothing extra as a scheduled van delivery, and the same tiny urgent order that is uneconomical for a supermarket van is exactly what a courier app exists for.

Glovo: the everything courier

Glovo's Polish pitch is deliberately broad: it delivers "the best products of your city in less than 1 hour," and its range runs from supermarkets to shops, pharmacies and florists - if a venue operates in your city, you can order from it. In practice that makes Glovo the most flexible option for an English-speaking newcomer: one app covers groceries, a forgotten ingredient, over-the-counter pharmacy basics and a birthday bouquet.

Coverage is not just a big-city affair. Glovo's own Polish location list extends far beyond Warsaw and Kraków to regional towns - its app lists places as small as Mrągowo, Kłodzko and Kostrzyn nad Odrą. In mid-size cities the supermarket selection is thinner, but the model works the same way.

Wolt and Wolt Market

Wolt's Polish app puts "sklepy spożywcze" (grocery stores) front and center alongside restaurants, so you can order a supermarket basket the same way you would order dinner. Alongside partner stores, Wolt runs Wolt Market - its own delivery-only grocery stores with a fixed range designed for speed. Wolt Market is the option to check first when you want a small basket fast and do not care about a specific supermarket brand; partner stores are the route when you want a specific chain's products or own-brand lines.

Wolt's marketplace side also reaches beyond food into convenience stores, pet supplies and similar everyday categories, so it functions as a general errands app much like Glovo. For a newcomer, the practical difference between Wolt and Glovo usually comes down to which partner stores sit nearest your address - both apps show you only what actually delivers to you, so the honest way to choose is to enter your address in each and compare.

Bolt Market

Bolt, better known for rides and scooters, runs grocery delivery as Bolt Market within its food-delivery product family in Poland. The dark-store logic is the same as Wolt Market's: a curated range, picked in Bolt's own facility, delivered fast. If you already use Bolt for transport, this is the zero-new-apps option - but check whether Bolt Market serves your exact address, as dark-store coverage is always tighter than marketplace coverage.

Frisco: the full weekly shop, delivered

Frisco is a different animal: a complete online supermarket - the company marked its 20th year in 2026 - built for the big weekly shop rather than impulse top-ups. You fill a full-size cart online (fresh, frozen, household, baby, the lot) and book a delivery window.

Its delivery map is city-based: Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań, Katowice, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot and Łódź. Customer service runs by phone and email seven days a week (weekdays from 7:00 to 22:00, slightly shorter weekend hours), which matters when you need to fix an order in English. For a family doing one big weekly shop, Frisco usually beats marketplace apps on both range and unit prices, because you are buying at supermarket shelf prices rather than app-marked-up stock.

Two Frisco traits suit expat households in particular. The scheduled-window model means you order tonight for tomorrow evening, so you can plan around work instead of waiting on a courier. And because it is a full supermarket, it carries the bulky, boring things - bottled water multipacks, washing powder, cat litter - that make car-free life hard when you rely on courier bags alone.

Practical notes that save real frustration

The address format matters. Polish addresses put the flat number after the street number (ul. Przykładowa 12/34 = building 12, flat 34). Enter both, plus the staircase (klatka) if your building has several, and your intercom code in the delivery notes - couriers get stuck at entry phones daily.

Answer your phone. Couriers call from Polish numbers when the intercom fails. If your Polish is minimal, a delivered-at-the-door photo note or a simple "proszę zostawić pod drzwiami" (please leave it at the door) in the notes field covers most situations.

Substitutions are normal. Marketplace pickers and online supermarkets alike will replace out-of-stock items. Apps ask your substitution preference at checkout; set it once - replace with similar is the least surprising default.

Payment is cashless by default. Cards and BLIK (Poland's phone-payment system) are standard; the major apps take international cards, so you can use delivery from day one, before you have a Polish bank account.

Compare the same basket once. Marketplace-app prices can be marked up versus shelf prices, and delivery and service fees vary by order size and time. One like-for-like comparison of your usual basket across an app and Frisco tells you which model should carry your weekly shop.

A word on the human side

Couriers are mostly students, migrants and gig workers juggling several orders at once in Polish weather. Tipping is not obligatory in Poland but the apps offer it in the checkout, and a few złoty on a rainy-evening order is money well felt. If your building is awkward - no lift, a maze of staircases, a gate code that never works - say so in the notes; a courier who knows what they are walking into is a courier who does not cancel your order at the door.

When something goes wrong

Missing or damaged items are a routine part of grocery delivery everywhere, and the fix is always the same route: the app's own help or order screen, reported promptly, with photos if anything arrived damaged. Marketplace apps handle refunds inside the order history - you mark the missing items and the refund lands on the card you paid with. Frisco's seven-day customer-service phone and email lines exist for exactly this. The one habit that protects you: check the bags against the order while the delivery is fresh in your mind, not two days later. Claims filed within a short window, with the order number at hand, are the ones that get resolved without argument.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Polish grocery delivery apps in English?

The major international apps - Glovo and Wolt - operate in many countries and offer English-language interfaces; Frisco's site is Polish-first, but its structure is a standard online supermarket and its customer service answers email and phone seven days a week. Source: glovoapp.com/pl, wolt.com/pl, frisco.pl, checked October 21, 2026.

What is the cheapest way to get groceries delivered in Poland?

A full online supermarket such as Frisco, which sells at supermarket shelf prices with a scheduled delivery window, usually beats marketplace apps on a large weekly basket; apps win for small, urgent orders where paying a markup for one-hour delivery makes sense. Do the apps work without a Polish phone number or bank account?

Registration typically needs a phone number for courier contact, but payment by international card is standard in the major apps, so no Polish bank account is required to start ordering. Source: service sites listed above, checked October 21, 2026.

Which service delivers a full weekly family shop?
