Jelenia Góra, the Lower Silesian gateway to the Karkonosze mountains, has a city bus network run by the municipal company Miejski Zakład Komunikacyjny (MZK). The tariff below comes from the official price list on mzk.jgora.pl, which says it is based on a city council resolution of 28 May 2025 and has applied since 21 June 2025. The price table inside it is marked as in force from 1 June 2021, so the ticket prices themselves have not changed in years. All prices include VAT.

Single and time tickets

A normal single ticket costs PLN 4.00 and a reduced one PLN 2.00 across the whole network. This is the price when you buy in advance, from a ticket machine, by the mobile app (an SMS-type ticket) or with the electronic purse on the electronic ticket without registering your exit from the bus. If you pay with the electronic purse and register both entry and exit, the fare is PLN 3.90 normal or PLN 1.95 reduced. A short ride of up to three stops costs PLN 3.00 normal or PLN 1.50 reduced with the purse.

Time tickets are valid on the whole network:

  • 30 minutes: PLN 4.00 normal, PLN 2.00 reduced
  • 60 minutes: PLN 5.00 normal, PLN 2.50 reduced
  • 90 minutes: PLN 6.00 normal, PLN 3.00 reduced

For tourists, the machine tickets for the whole network are the useful ones. A 24-hour ticket costs PLN 12.00 (PLN 6.00 reduced) and counts from the moment of purchase. A 48-hour ticket costs PLN 24.00 (PLN 12.00 reduced). A weekend ticket costs PLN 22.00 (PLN 11.00 reduced) and is valid from Friday 12:00 to Monday 12:00. These are bearer tickets, so anyone can use them.

Passes: 15-day and 30-day

Named passes exist only as electronic tickets and activate when you tap the card on the validator. Prices for the city zone and for the whole network:

  • 30-day, valid every day: PLN 130 city zone, PLN 150 whole network (reduced PLN 65 and PLN 75)
  • 30-day, Monday to Friday except public holidays: PLN 110 city zone, PLN 130 whole network
  • 15-day, valid every day: PLN 65 city zone, PLN 75 whole network
  • 15-day, Monday to Friday except holidays: PLN 55 city zone, PLN 65 whole network

Bearer passes (not tied to a name) cost more: a 30-day pass valid every day is PLN 150 in the city zone and PLN 170 on the whole network, and the weekday version is PLN 130 and PLN 150. The city zone is the administrative area of Jelenia Góra. The price list names the stops that mark the zone boundary for neighbouring communes such as Janowice Wielkie and Jeżów Sudecki.

Free travel, including 1 November

The price list gives free rides to everyone on three days a year: 22 September (European Car Free Day), 1 November (All Saints' Day) and 1 January. So on 1 November 2026 city buses are free for all passengers, which helps when many people travel to cemeteries. Other free groups include children up to age 7 (until 30 September of the year they turn 7), people aged 70 and over, and schoolchildren and students living in the area covered by the inter-municipal agreement, up to certain ages and with the right loaded on an electronic ticket. Large families get free rides on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays in the city zone with the local Large Family Card. Check the full list on the operator page, because many exemptions need a document or an electronic ticket issued by MZK.

Fines and discounts

The additional fee for travelling without a valid ticket is PLN 200, which is 50 times the single fare. Travelling without a document that proves a free or reduced fare right costs PLN 160. Luggage or an animal without the required ticket costs PLN 80. Causing a bus to stop or change route without reason costs PLN 600, and that one gets no discount.

For the first three types, the price list gives two discounts: 60% if you pay on the day the notice is issued (or the next working day), and 30% if you pay within 7 days. That works out to PLN 80 and PLN 140 for a no-ticket fee. If you can show within 7 days that you did have a valid ticket, the charge drops to an administrative fee of 10%: PLN 20 for a missing ticket, PLN 16 for a missing proof of free or reduced fare, and PLN 8 for a missing luggage or animal ticket.
