A tram on the streets of Katowice

Public transport in Katowice and the cities around it is run by ZTM (Zarząd Transportu Metropolitalnego), the transport authority of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis (GZM), under the name Transport GZM. One ticket system covers trams, buses and trolleybuses in the whole metropolitan area, and some tickets also cover regional trains. This guide gives the prices from the official ZTM price list (cennik) with a publication date of 1 January 2026, read in October 2026. Prices can change, so check the live price list before a long trip.

Single tickets: you pay by time, not by zone

The official price list sets paper single tickets by how long they are valid after you validate them, with transfers allowed. Full and reduced prices:

  • 20 minutes: 4.60 zl full, 2.30 zl reduced.
  • 40 minutes: 5.60 zl full, 2.80 zl reduced.
  • 120 minutes: 7.00 zl full, 3.50 zl reduced.
  • Group ticket (up to five people, 120 minutes): 13.80 zl full, 6.90 zl reduced.

The same price list gives promotional prices for electronic single tickets, which are valid from the moment of purchase: 4.20 zl for 20 minutes, 5.20 zl for 40 minutes, 6.60 zl for 120 minutes and 12.80 zl for the group ticket (full price). So buying in the app can save you 40 grosz per ticket.

Pay-as-you-go: Podróż Start/Stop

ZTM also offers a time-based fare called "Podróż Start/Stop". You check in at the start and check out at the end, and the price depends on travel time. According to the price list, the full-price charges run from 2.10 zl for the shortest rides, 3.20 zl for rides above 5 and up to 10 minutes, 3.70 zl up to 15 minutes, and 4.20 zl up to 20 minutes, up to 6.60 zl for rides between 60 and 120 minutes. Reduced fares are half of the full price.

Day tickets

  • A same-day ticket valid until 23:59 on the day of use across the whole Transport GZM network costs 13 zl (6.50 zl reduced).
  • The Metrobilet 24h is a named ticket valid for 24 hours. It covers the whole city transport network and the trains of Koleje Śląskie and POLREGIO in the GZM area. It costs 24 zl (12 zl reduced).

Monthly tickets (Metrobilet)

The long-term electronic tickets are named, which means they are tied to one person. According to the official price list, a 30-day ticket costs:

  • Metrobilet Miasto 30: 119 zl (59.50 zl reduced). Valid in one chosen city (gmina). If that city has at least two railway stops, it can also be used on trains inside it.
  • Metrobilet 2 Miasta 30: 149 zl (74.50 zl reduced). Valid in two neighbouring cities.
  • Metrobilet Obszarowy 30: 189 zl (94.50 zl reduced). Valid on the whole city transport network, and, if you choose it, on regional trains in the area of three to six cities in a row.
  • Metrobilet Sieć 30: 249 zl (124.50 zl reduced). Valid on the whole network and on all KŚ and POLREGIO train lines in the GZM area, and on one extra rail section named in the price list.

There are also longer versions. The price list shows a 90-day Metrobilet 2 Miasta at 380 zl and a 90-day Metrobilet Sieć at 460 zl. A bearer ticket (not tied to a name) for a long period costs 115 zl in the list.

Which one to pick

If you live and work in the same city, Miasto 30 at 119 zl is the cheapest monthly option. If you cross one city border, the 2 Miasta ticket costs 30 zl more. If you commute across several cities of the metropolis, the Obszarowy or Sieć ticket is the one to price against what you spend on single tickets. Count your rides: at the 120-minute price of 7 zl, about 18 single rides cost more than Miasto 30 for one month.

Reduced fares

The price list gives the reduced price as exactly half of the full price. Who qualifies for reduced fares is set by the separate rules of the transport authority, and I did not verify them for foreign students or residents, so check the ZTM rules and carry the required proof before you buy a reduced ticket.
