Prescription Glasses in Poland: Eye Tests, Quotes and Collection
The essentials: Confirm the examination type, professional and fee before booking. Get the correction and complete frame-plus-two-lenses quote in writing, check collection and follow-up, and read any custom-order return conditions before paying.

Buying prescription glasses in Poland involves more than choosing a frame marked oprawki. You may need an appointment, a written correction, measurements for the chosen frame and a quote for two lenses. The advertised frame price or a free eye-test banner does not settle all of those questions.
This guide is for planning an ordinary glasses purchase, not diagnosing an eye problem. Sources were checked on 27 October 2026. Retailer pages are examples of services and conditions, not a quality ranking, live appointment search or national price survey. If you need medical assessment rather than help buying glasses, ask a qualified healthcare professional which service is appropriate.
Separate the shop, the examination and the medical question
Look for optyk or salon optyczny when searching for an optical shop. Badanie wzroku means an eyesight examination, but that phrase alone does not identify its scope or the professional performing it. Ask whether the appointment concerns optical correction, contact-lens fitting or a different assessment. Do not infer the answer from the fact that the room is inside a glasses shop.
Poland's April 2025 regulation lists optometrists' professional activities, including optometric examinations and selecting and prescribing spectacle and contact lenses. It also includes informing a patient when an ophthalmologist should be consulted after abnormalities are detected. That does not make every shop appointment identical or establish what is included in a particular advertised package.
Ask who will see you and what the appointment covers. Vision Express's booking page distinguishes refraction, contact-lens services and an examination with assessment of eye-disease risk. A correction appointment should not be assumed to answer every eye-health question. If you have a concern beyond replacing glasses, describe it when arranging the visit so the provider can direct you appropriately.
Confirm language, age rules and what to bring
If you need English, confirm that the person conducting the examination can discuss it with you, not only that the website has English text. Ask how written results will be provided and whether there is an additional consultation requirement for your situation. A clear conversation matters when you are comparing corrections or explaining how you use your glasses.
Check the age category before booking for a child. Vision Express lists different appointment lengths for adults and teenagers aged 16 or over and for children aged eight to 15. Its booking guidance also says a child's guardian must attend. These are that provider's arrangements, not a claim that every optical shop offers every age group or uses the same examination process.
Bring your existing glasses, previous results and any other information the provider asks for. Vision Express specifically recommends existing correction and earlier examination records. Its booking page asks for an identity document and says foreigners without a PESEL should bring another document confirming identity. Check requirements directly rather than assuming that not having a PESEL prevents a private appointment.
Read the conditions behind a free or discounted test
A low advertised examination price can depend on the type of service, purchase, age, programme membership or promotion. Fielmann's service page advertises a free eyesight examination without an obligation to buy. Vision Express's pages describe different services and conditional prices. Treat those as provider-specific offers, not evidence that all examinations in Poland are free.
The Vision Express pages checked on 27 October 2026 also illustrate why verification matters: its booking-page FAQ and separate price page describe different promotional conditions, including different time and eligibility wording. Do not choose the more generous version and assume it applies. Ask the selected branch to confirm the exact examination, total charge and conditions for your appointment.
Ask what happens if you have the examination but do not buy glasses, or buy them later. If a price depends on a complete pair, clarify whether that means a frame plus two specified lenses and whether a deadline applies. If an offer asks for marketing consent, read that condition before accepting. A free service is not a reason to agree to something you do not want.
Keep the correction and the order details clear
Before leaving the examination, ask for the written result or prescription and an explanation of the intended use of the correction. If you bring a prescription from abroad, ask the shop whether it can work from it and whether any further examination or measurement is needed. This guide does not assume that every document is accepted by every seller or that an old correction is still suitable.
Keep the professional's results separate from your own notes. Do not try to convert unfamiliar numbers or copy a contact-lens prescription into a glasses order yourself. Vision Express lists contact-lens fitting as a distinct service, while the professional regulation separately addresses selecting optical corrections. Ask the provider to resolve an unclear document rather than relying on an online checkout to catch a mistake.
If you want only the examination and intend to shop elsewhere, say so beforehand and confirm what documents will be supplied. Also ask which measurements belong to the specific frame and lens order. A written correction, a frame selection and the final dispensing measurements are different parts of the purchase conversation; ask the optician to explain what is still needed.
Get a quote for the complete pair
Ask for a written total that separates the frame, two lenses, chosen options and any examination charge. Confirm that a lens price is for the pair rather than a single lens. If you are comparing two sellers, compare the actual lens specification and included services, not only the frame brand or a discount percentage on a poster.
Explain how you plan to use the glasses: reading, distance, computer work or another purpose already discussed with the professional. Ask what each proposed lens option changes and which parts are optional. You do not need to buy every coating or upgrade offered. Ask for an alternative quote if the complete pair exceeds your budget, rather than deciding from a frame's price tag alone.
Check whether a promotion applies to the complete specification you selected. A starting price does not establish the cost of your prescription and options. Fielmann advertises complete glasses from a stated entry price, but that headline is not a quote for every customer. This guide deliberately gives no market-average total because the final order needs its own specification.

Agree collection, fitting and follow-up before paying
Confirm the expected production time and how you will be told the glasses are ready. If you are leaving Poland soon, explain the date before ordering and ask what happens if the pair is delayed or needs adjustment. Do not assume a convenient appointment slot also guarantees a particular collection date for a custom-made product.
Ask what happens at collection: checking the order, fitting the frame and explaining care. Confirm where you should return if the frame slips or the new glasses do not feel right. If you use a different branch or live abroad, ask whether that changes the support route. Keep the order number, receipt and lens details in a place you can find later.
Read the terms of any satisfaction promise, guarantee or optional protection separately. Fielmann advertises a satisfaction guarantee and other services, but an individual purchase still needs its applicable conditions checked. A guarantee, a paid insurance product and rights relating to an incorrect or defective order are not interchangeable labels. Ask what is covered, for how long and how a claim is made.
Online returns and complaints are different questions
Do not assume every pair ordered online can be returned because you changed your mind. UOKiK lists goods made to the consumer's specification or individual needs among exceptions to withdrawal rights. Whether a particular order falls within an exception depends on what was supplied. Check the seller's actual policy and product before paying instead of treating all frames, ready-made items and prescription orders as identical.
A withdrawal exception does not by itself answer what happens when the delivered glasses are wrong or defective. Record the problem, retain the agreed specification and contact the seller through its complaint route. If the issue concerns the correction or your experience using the glasses, arrange professional follow-up rather than trying to alter them yourself or assuming a retail return process will answer a health question.
For an unresolved consumer dispute, UOKiK says local consumer ombudsmen provide free legal advice and help drafting complaints. Bring the written order, receipt and relevant correspondence. This guide does not decide reimbursement eligibility or employer contributions: if you intend to claim support, verify the required documents and seller arrangements before ordering, not after a receipt has been issued.
A short checklist for the first visit
Before booking, confirm the professional, language, examination type, fee and any offer conditions. Before ordering, agree the correction document, complete pair specification and full price. Before collection, know the timetable and follow-up route. Those checks leave less room for a cheap-looking frame or free-test advertisement to turn into an unexpected bill.
Useful questions include Czy cena obejmuje dwie soczewki i oprawkę? (Does the price include two lenses and the frame?) and Czy dostanę wynik badania na piśmie? (Will I receive the examination result in writing?). If you are unsure what has been agreed, ask for it in writing before paying. A clear order is easier to compare, collect and put right.
Frequently asked questions
What does optyk mean in Poland?
It is the word used for an optician or optical shop. Ask separately who conducts an examination and what it includes; a glasses shop, correction appointment and medical assessment are not automatically the same service.
Can a foreigner without PESEL book an eye examination?
Check the provider requirements. Vision Express says foreigners without PESEL should bring another identity document. That is provider guidance, not a universal rule about every service.
Are eye tests free in Poland?
Some retailers advertise free tests or conditional offers. Confirm the exact examination, age category, purchase or consent conditions and charge for your branch. Do not rely on a headline or conflicting promotional pages.
Does the frame price include lenses?
Do not assume so. Ask for a complete-pair quote specifying the frame, two lenses, options and examination charges. Compare the same specification across sellers.
Can I return made-to-order prescription glasses bought online?
Do not assume a change-of-mind right applies. UOKiK lists individually specified goods among withdrawal exceptions. An incorrect or defective order is a separate complaint question; check the actual product and seller terms.
