Gniezno's city buses are run by MPK Gniezno, the municipal transport company. This guide uses the fare page on mpk.gniezno.pl, read on 19 October 2026. The page links a tariff file titled "Taryfa opłat 2025" and shows no other date, so check the site for changes before you buy a long-period ticket.

Single tickets

The page lists these single-ticket prices, full fare and reduced fare:

A standard single ticket costs 4.00 zł (reduced 2.00 zł). It covers one ride on one bus in one direction, from the moment you validate it until you leave the vehicle. A 60-minute ticket costs 5.20 zł (reduced 2.60 zł) and allows unlimited rides on any line for 60 minutes after validation. A 24-hour ticket costs 13.00 zł (reduced 6.50 zł). The 60-minute and 24-hour tickets are sold only electronically, by phone or internet, and in ticket machines.

A family single ticket costs 10.00 zł. It covers one ride for two adults and up to four children, or one adult and up to five children, children being under 18. Parents must show an ID and some document proving the child's identity during an inspection. Carrying luggage that needs a separate ticket costs 4.00 zł.

Period tickets

For regular use, the monthly tickets are the main option. A named monthly ticket for one line costs 90.00 zł (reduced 45.00 zł), for two lines 110.00 zł (reduced 55.00 zł), and for the whole network 120.00 zł (reduced 60.00 zł). A network monthly ticket issued to the bearer, not to a named person, costs 180.00 zł. A named monthly ticket is valid from the first to the last day of the calendar month.

There are also a 10-day named network ticket at 50.00 zł (reduced 25.00 zł), a 60-day named network ticket at 220.00 zł (reduced 110.00 zł) and a quarterly named network ticket at 330.00 zł (reduced 165.00 zł). The 10-day and 60-day tickets start on any date the passenger chooses. A quarterly ticket covers three consecutive calendar months. Named tickets are used with an identity document, and only the person named may travel on them.

A summer ticket for children and young people up to 18, valid in July and August on all lines, costs 45.00 zł. An integrated monthly network ticket costs 70.00 zł (reduced 35.00 zł). It is valid together with a named monthly rail ticket from Przewozy Regionalne or Koleje Wielkopolskie and works as a top-up to the rail ticket.

Large families

Holders of a Large Family Card issued by the Mayor of Gniezno can buy the "Rodzina 3+" monthly tickets: 67.50 zł for one line, 82.50 zł for two lines and 90.00 zł for the network at full fare, with reduced prices of 22.50, 27.50 and 30.00 zł. The card is the proof of entitlement.

Luggage, animals and prams

Wheelchairs used by a disabled person, prams, and items that take no extra space are not charged. Items that take extra space are free if the sum of their length, height and width does not exceed 175 cm. Pets are not charged but must travel under the conditions set by separate rules.

Fines

Riding without a valid ticket carries a surcharge of 240.00 zł. Travelling without the document that proves a reduced fare or free travel costs 80.00 zł. If you pay the inspector immediately, or at the ticket inspection office by the next working day, the amounts fall to 120.00 zł and 40.00 zł. If you pay within 7 days of the payment request, they are 156.00 zł and 52.00 zł. Causing a stop or a route change without reason costs 600.00 zł. Tickets valid on MPK lines carry the printed text "MPK Sp. z o.o. w Gnieźnie".

What it means for expats

If you live in Gniezno and ride daily, a named network monthly ticket at 120.00 zł is the simplest choice, and the 60-minute ticket suits trips with a change. Keep your identity document with you when using a named ticket, and the proof of eligibility if you pay a reduced fare. According to the same page, the network has 17 bus lines, 231 stops and 38 buses.

The page does not describe a mobile app by name or give timetables, so use the operator's website for routes.
