Szczecinek, a lake town in West Pomerania, had free city buses for several years. Since 1 July 2026 they are partly paid again. The city office announced the return of tickets on 30 June 2026, and the details below come from that announcement and the city council tariff reported by the local press on 28 January 2026. They were checked on 20 October 2026.

Prices

  • Normal 50-minute ticket with free transfers: PLN 6
  • Residents with the active "Mój Szczecinek" Resident Card: PLN 3 per ride (half price)
  • Pupils up to 21 years of age: PLN 1.50 per ride
  • Monthly ticket for all day and night lines: PLN 180, or PLN 90 with the Resident Card

Tickets are time tickets (50 minutes, multi-ride) and monthly tickets. The tariff is the same on all lines.

Who still rides free

Payment is only partial. The city office lists these free groups:

  • Children up to 7 years of age
  • Seniors over 65 with an active Resident Card
  • Honorary blood donors of the first degree
  • People with a significant disability and their carers, plus guide dogs
  • All other animals

Local press reporting on the council decision adds that blood donors ride free on the day of donation with a certificate, that car owners ride free on 22 September (European Car Free Day), and that people with a moderate disability pay two thirds of the normal fare (PLN 4).

How to buy a ticket

  • On the bus, with the ticket machine (kasownik) fitted in each vehicle
  • In the "BiletSzczecinek" app, which sells every type of ticket. A 50-minute ticket must be validated by scanning the QR code on the side of the bus, or by entering the vehicle number printed under the code
  • In the Resident Card app, where you can buy tickets for yourself or a family member and validate them with the QR code
  • With the plastic Resident Card, if you register it at bilety.szczecinek.pl and top up the e-wallet. You can then pay in the ticket machine with the e-wallet

Cards

  • Passenger Card (Karta Pasażera): a named e-wallet issued by Komunikacja Miejska for a one-time fee of PLN 16. You top it up online at bilety.szczecinek.pl.
  • Prepaid Card (Karta Przedpłacona): for people who do not pay by bank card. It costs PLN 36 and covers six normal rides. It is a bearer card, so anyone can use it.

Monthly ticket

A monthly ticket is the most convenient option. You buy it online, on the Komunikacja Miejska website or in the app, and it is saved on the phone app or on the Resident Card. There is no paper monthly ticket. It does not need to be validated and is active for the period chosen at purchase, for example the whole of July. When you buy it for a family member, check which account you are buying it for.
