Top events in Poland, 26 October - 1 November 2026
The essentials: The week of 26 October to 1 November 2026 ends with Halloween on Saturday 31 October and All Saints' Day on Sunday 1 November. Teatr Groteska in Kraków stages a Halloween show at 17:00, and both cities prepare special cemetery transport.

Official pages from Teatr Groteska, Kraków's public transport operator, the city of Kraków and the city of Warsaw cover the week of Monday 26 October to Sunday 1 November 2026: a Halloween show for children, and the special cemetery arrangements around All Saints' Day. Programs and announcements are in Polish, so this guide gives the dates and what to expect. We read the pages on 23 October 2026. Plans can change, so check the organiser's page before you go.
Kraków: Halloween at Teatr Groteska, Saturday 31 October
Teatr Groteska, the puppet and mask theatre at ul. Skarbowa 2 in Kraków, stages "Halloween w Grotesce" on Saturday 31 October 2026 at 17:00. The theatre's page lists it for viewers aged 7 and up, lasting about one hour without a break. Tickets are sold through the theatre's "KUP BILET" button; the page we read does not state a price.
The story: three witch sisters, Brama, Strzyga and Migotka, live in the cellars under the theatre. The two older ones grumble that the old, spooky days are gone and that modern Halloween is a made-up holiday, while children outside shout "cukierek albo psikus" (trick or treat). The youngest sister, a mere 300 years old, would happily join the costumed children collecting sweets on Kraków's Main Square. The plot asks whether Halloween really threatens the traditional Zaduszki (All Souls'), and Kraków's own Lajkonik makes an appearance.
Direction and dramaturgy are by Diana Jędrzejewska-Szumska, music arrangements by Filip Szostek, choreography by Dominika Guzek and song lyrics by Lech Walicki. A live five-piece band is listed: saxophones, guitar, keyboards, bass and drums. The theatre's box office at ul. Skarbowa 2 is open Monday to Friday 8:00 to 16:00, and on weekends and holidays one hour before each performance. The theatre notes that it works to accommodate visitors with disabilities.

Kraków: 34 special cemetery lines for All Saints' weekend
Kraków's transport operator (page dated 22 October 2026) says the Zarząd Transportu Publicznego has prepared a special All Saints' network: 34 special lines serving 25 cemeteries in Kraków and the surrounding area, with the biggest offer on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November. On 1 November the operator lists 25 special bus routes and 8 special tram routes. Twelve lines will run every 10 minutes or more often, and most of the other special lines every 20 minutes or less at the busiest times.
The most special connections are planned for the largest necropolises: Cmentarz Prądnik Czerwony (Batowicki) with 15, Rakowicki with 11, Grębałów with 10 and Podgórski with 8. Special bus 804 will link five cemeteries in one ride: Batowice, Podgórski, Prokocim, Bieżanów and the cemetery in Wieliczka, which is useful if family graves sit in more than one place.
The rollout is staged. On the weekend of 24 and 25 October, special tram line 84 already runs, bus 105 runs more often, and every course of bus 184 between about 9:00 and 19:00 reaches the Prądnik Czerwony cemetery. On 31 October and 1 November the full special offer runs, together with a special traffic organisation near the biggest cemeteries, extra stops and priority for public transport. The message from the operator is plain: take the bus or tram, do not drive.
The city adds (page dated 22 October 2026) that municipal guards will be on duty around the Rakowicki, Grębałowski, Salwatorski, Batowicki and Podgórski cemeteries and other necropolises, working with the police, the municipal cemetery board and MPK inspectors. They will watch for traffic violations near the cemeteries, unlicensed sellers and pickpockets, and will give first aid where needed.

Warsaw: weekday cemetery service 26-30 October, full plan to come
Warsaw's public transport organiser WTP has published its changes for Monday 26 to Friday 30 October 2026 (page dated 19 October). Cemetery lines run daily between 9:00 and 17:00, at standard ZTM fares; outside those hours the regular service applies. Cemetery bus C40 links Metro Młociny with the gates of Cmentarz Północny, and bus 409 runs on a changed route from Bródno-Podgrodzie past the Bródnowski cemetery gate on Chodecka street to the main and western gates of Cmentarz Północny. The BALKONOWA stops by the Bródnowski cemetery are renamed CM. BRÓDNOWSKI (BALKONOWA), and the notice also lists timetable or stop changes for lines 181, 184, 212, 250, 303, 739, L39, L53 and N62.
This builds on the weekend of 24-25 October, when the first cemetery lines (C09, C13, C40 and trams C1, C4, C6) already ran. We covered that plan in detail in our Warsaw cemetery transport article.
The full plan for 31 October to 2 November, usually the biggest offer of the season, had not been published when we checked on 23 October 2026. The most recent full plan on the city's site is dated 31 October 2025, and it shows what to expect: 26 extra cemetery lines (marked with a C before the number), some running as often as every one to two minutes, with public transport getting priority near the cemeteries. Cemetery lines ran between 7:00 and 19:00 on All Saints' Day and from 9:00 to 17:00 on All Souls' Day, and lines serving Powązki ran longer, because many Varsovians walk the old Powązki avenues after dark.
Traffic rules also change around the big cemeteries. In an earlier plan published for 2023, for example, drivers could not use ulica św. Wincentego by the Bródnowski cemetery on the last weekend of October, and streets around the Bielany cemetery were closed to private cars. Under the 2025 plan, some streets carried only public transport, taxis and vehicles with special identifiers issued by the Zarząd Dróg Miejskich, parking was restricted, and police directed traffic. Expect a similar setup for 2026, and look for the confirmed plan on wtp.waw.pl and um.warszawa.pl in the days before the weekend.

1 November: a public holiday with a particular mood
All Saints' Day (Wszystkich Świętych) is a public holiday in Poland. In 2026 it falls on Sunday 1 November, so it lands on a day when most shops are closed anyway; the holiday means large shops stay closed regardless. Monday 2 November, All Souls' Day (Zaduszki), is a normal working day, not a day off.
The custom is to visit the graves of family and friends, tidy them, lay flowers and light znicze, the covered grave lanterns. Cemeteries are at their busiest on 1 November and the surrounding days, and after dark the candlelight is the sight many Poles associate with this time of year. Candles, flowers and wreaths are sold at stalls outside cemetery gates. Our All Saints' guide explains the customs and the etiquette in more detail.
Because Sunday is a holiday, Saturday 31 October is the last shopping day of the week, so expect supermarkets to be busy on Saturday afternoon and evening. If you plan to visit a cemetery, go early in the day or after dark for a quieter walk, dress for standing outside, and expect long queues for toilets and food stalls at the biggest necropolises. Carry small change for candles and flowers.
What it means for expats
Halloween on Saturday 31 October sits right next to a solemn national holiday, and the two moods coexist: costume events on Saturday night, then quiet, crowded cemeteries on Sunday. If you are invited to a Halloween party, go; if Polish friends or colleagues visit family graves, do not plan anything with them for Sunday. The Groteska show is a friendly first Halloween event for children who speak some Polish. For cemetery visits, public transport is genuinely the easier option this weekend in both cities.
What the sources do not say
The Groteska page does not state a ticket price, and we did not verify seat availability. Kraków's operator does not list exact routes and timetables for all 34 special lines on the page we read; check ztp.krakow.pl or mpk.krakow.pl for the full network map. Warsaw's full plan for 31 October to 2 November had not been published when we checked, so the Warsaw section describes the confirmed weekday service for 26-30 October and the 2025 full-weekend pattern. We did not check events outside Warsaw and Kraków this week.
Frequently asked questions
Is 1 November 2026 a day off in Poland?
Yes. All Saints' Day (Wszystkich Świętych) is a public holiday, and in 2026 it falls on a Sunday. All Souls' Day on Monday 2 November is a normal working day.
Is the Groteska Halloween show in Polish?
Yes, the performance is in Polish with songs. The theatre lists it for viewers aged 7 and up, lasting about an hour without a break.
Should I drive to the cemetery on All Saints' Day?
The cities advise against it. Kraków gives public transport priority near the big cemeteries, and Warsaw runs special cemetery lines at normal fares; when the full plan applies, streets by the cemeteries are limited to residents, taxis and permit holders.
