Zamość Public Transport: MZK Bus Tickets, Passes, Free Rides
Short answer: In Zamość a single MZK bus ticket costs PLN 2.70 in one zone (PLN 1.35 reduced) and a one-zone network monthly ticket PLN 88; people aged 70 and over ride free. The official tariff dates from 2020.

Zamość, the Renaissance old town in Lublin Voivodeship, has city buses run by Miejski Zakład Komunikacji (MZK). The tariff uses three zones: zone 1 for rides inside one zone, a higher price for two zones and a higher one again for three zones. The prices below come from the MZK price list page, which states that the tariff is in force from 16 March 2020 (annex to city council resolution XVIII/304/2020), and from the MZK e-ticket page, whose period ticket prices match that list. Neither page shows a newer tariff, but both are older than 2026, so check the current prices at an MZK ticket office before you buy.
Single and short-time tickets
A single ticket costs PLN 2.70 normal and PLN 1.35 reduced for a ride in zone 1, or only in zone 2 or 3. For a ride across two zones (from zone 2 to 1, or 3 to 2) it costs PLN 3.30 and PLN 1.65. Across three zones it costs PLN 4.00 and PLN 2.00. A five-ride booklet costs PLN 12.00, PLN 15.00 or PLN 18.00 normal depending on the number of zones, and half of that reduced.
There are also time tickets: a one-hour ticket valid only in zone 1 for PLN 3.00 (PLN 1.50 reduced) and a two-hour ticket valid on the whole network for PLN 4.90 (PLN 2.45 reduced). Carrying luggage or a dog costs the same as a normal single ticket for the zones you travel through. Hand luggage, prams and animals held in the arms are free.
Monthly and quarterly tickets
All period tickets are named. A route monthly ticket, not valid on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, costs PLN 68 for one zone, PLN 85 for two and PLN 96 for three zones, with half price for reduced. A network monthly ticket valid every day costs PLN 88, PLN 120 or PLN 140 for one, two or three zones (PLN 44, PLN 60 and PLN 70 reduced). A three-month network ticket costs PLN 214, PLN 260 or PLN 312 (reduced PLN 107, PLN 130 and PLN 156).
School monthly tickets cost PLN 25, PLN 35 or PLN 45 for primary school pupils and PLN 44, PLN 60 or PLN 70 for other schools and universities. Semester tickets for the school term, valid in holidays and on public holidays too, cost PLN 99.90 to PLN 155.90 for primary pupils and PLN 176 to PLN 260 for other students.

Free and reduced rides
According to the MZK travel information page, free rides are available to people aged 70 and over, children up to the end of their fourth year, members of parliament, Honorary Citizens of Zamość, certain war and military invalids and repressed persons, blind people with a significant or moderate disability, people fully unable to work and live independently, and Meritorious Honorary Blood Donors who have given at least 15 litres (women) or 18 litres (men). A valid ID is required with the document.
The 50% reduction applies to higher education students with a valid student card, children from age 4 and pupils up to age 24 with a school card, pensioners and disability pension holders over 55 with the right membership card, combatants and people with the Zamość Senior Card on single, time and five-ride tickets. People aged 67 and over can buy a quarterly senior ticket for PLN 60, PLN 70 or PLN 80, depending on zones.
Fines
MZK sets additional fees as multiples of the price of the cheapest normal single ticket. Travelling without a valid ticket is 75 times that price, reduced by 55% if paid within 7 days of the check. Travelling without a valid document proving a free or reduced fare right is also 75 times, reduced by 90% if you show a valid document within 7 days. Breaking the rules on carrying items and animals is 20 times the price. Causing a stop or route change without reason is 150 times the price, reduced by 30% if paid within 7 days. The page does not print the resulting zloty amounts, which depend on the current single ticket price.
What it means for expats
If you live and work within the town, a network monthly ticket for one zone at PLN 88 is the simplest option, and the one-hour ticket at PLN 3.00 suits a single trip with a change. Because the tariff dates from 2020, confirm prices at the MZK office at ul. Lipowa 5 or by phone on 84 638 45 57. The sources do not say whether foreign students or residents receive the same reductions as Polish ones, so bring your student card and ask before buying a reduced ticket.
