A flat tyre on the way to work is an inconvenient moment to discover that a Polish repair price covers labour but not the replacement part. A more expensive service can be just as confusing: what does a basic inspection actually include, and will the mechanic call before replacing a worn drivetrain? The useful search term is serwis rowerowy, bicycle service, or naprawa rowerów, bicycle repairs.

This guide explains how to arrange the job, compare written quotes and collect the bike with a clear record of what was done. It is not a repair manual or a ranking of workshops. The prices below are named businesses' own published examples checked on 27 October 2026. They are not a national average, and they do not establish that a particular workshop can take your bike today.

Describe the problem before choosing a package

Start with the symptom: the rear tyre loses air, the chain skips when pedalling, the brake lever feels different, or the wheel rubs. Tell the mechanic when it happens and whether it began after a fall, transport or a previous repair. A short video can help with an intermittent noise, but do not reproduce a dangerous fault just to record it. If the bike does not feel safe, do not ride it to the shop.

Send the brand and model if you know them, plus clear photographs of the whole bike and the affected area. Mention an internal-gear hub, full chain guard, cargo setup, suspension or electric assistance. The price lists checked for this guide distinguish some of these configurations. A description such as “just a flat tyre” may leave out precisely the feature that changes the work needed to remove the wheel.

For a rental, employer-provided bike or subscription bike, contact its operator before arranging independent work. Ask who authorises repairs, which workshop to use and how reimbursement works. Owning a bike and being responsible for it under a hire agreement are different situations. Do not assume that a receipt from your preferred mechanic will automatically be accepted by the owner.

Polish words that make the conversation easier

A tyre is an opona, an inner tube a dętka, a wheel a koło and the chain a łańcuch. Brakes are hamulce; gears or derailleurs are commonly discussed as przerzutki. Regulacja means adjustment, while wymiana means replacement. Those are different instructions: asking for an adjustment does not clearly approve a new component.

Przegląd is a service or inspection. Robocizna is labour, części are parts and wycena is a quote or estimate. Watch for od, meaning “from,” before a price. Ask whether a displayed amount applies per wheel, per brake or to both. For a tube or tyre job, make sure you understand whether the actual replacement item is included.

What published puncture prices tell you, and what they do not

Vuelta in Warsaw publishes inner-tube or tyre replacement from 25 zł for the front wheel and from 35 zł for the rear. Its list rises to from 50 zł for a rear wheel with a multi-speed hub, and from 70 zł for a rear wheel on a bike with a full chain guard. These are examples from one operator, not a promise that every ordinary puncture costs 25 zł.

MyBike's Warsaw page lists tube replacement at 110 zł for a wheel with quick-release fastenings, 120 zł for a bolted wheel and 300 zł for a Dutch-style bike or planetary hub. It separately lists a tubeless service per wheel at 150 zł, described as labour plus sealant. The practical lesson is not to treat all these entries as interchangeable. Give the workshop your actual wheel and tyre setup and ask what its total includes.

GoRide in Kraków lists a front-wheel tube or tyre replacement service at 50 zł and a rear-wheel entry at 50-100 zł. Travel Bike lists tube or tyre replacement from 35 zł, and a city-bike entry from 70 zł. Do not combine those businesses into an invented “normal Polish price.” Different starting points and packages need an individual quote. Ask about the part, fitting and any additional work before comparing the final amounts.

A basic service is not a standardised product

Vuelta's basic package lists gear and brake adjustments, checks for play in several bearing areas, wheel checks, chain lubrication, tyre checks and inflation. Its page separates high-season and low-season prices and says service prices do not include the cost of replacing worn parts. A package name alone therefore tells you neither the final bill nor whether a replacement is included.

Travel Bike describes several service levels with a comparison table. Its page also states a 50 zł diagnosis charge when a customer declines repair after receiving a quote. That is a useful example of an easy-to-miss cost: an estimate process may involve paid inspection even when no repair follows. Ask the workshop about that possibility before leaving the bike, rather than after deciding the proposed repair is too expensive.

Compare the task lists line by line. Does the package adjust the existing components, remove and clean them, replace cables, or include work on bearings? Does “washing” mean the whole bike or only the drivetrain? If you need one repair for commuting tomorrow, an extensive service may not be your immediate priority. If you want a used bike assessed, ask explicitly what the inspection covers instead of assuming a tune-up establishes its condition.

Agree a spending limit and the next contact point

Ask for a written intake ticket identifying the bike and reported faults. Record existing damage with private photographs. List accessories you are leaving, such as lights, bags, a computer or charger. Remove items the workshop does not need. For a valuable bike, ask how the business records identifying details and handles storage, rather than leaving it without any written acknowledgement.

Put a clear approval boundary on the order: diagnosis first, and no additional parts or work without your agreement. Ask whether the total includes tax, parts, labour, cleaning and any collection or delivery. Clarify whether an agreed amount is a fixed price or an estimate that may change after disassembly. If it may change, agree when the mechanic will contact you and what happens if you decline.

Completion time needs the same clarity. MyBike says it does not operate a booking system and handles bikes in delivery order. That policy should not be generalised to other workshops. Ask your chosen business whether it accepts appointments, whether diagnosis and repair happen on different days, and whether the date depends on replacement parts. Arrange another way to get to work if the bike is essential.

E-bikes: ask about the system, not just the bicycle

An e-bike can need ordinary mechanical work and system-specific electrical diagnosis. Tell the workshop which drive system it uses and describe any error message exactly. Ask whether it supports that system and generation, whether software work is included and whether a diagnosis report will be provided. A shop advertising bicycle repair is not by itself evidence that it can service every motor, battery or controller.

Bosch's own dealer-service information describes trained specialist dealers, diagnostic tools, software updates and diagnosis reports. This supports using its service route for Bosch-specific questions; it does not establish that a named independent mechanic in this guide is a Bosch-approved workshop. Use the manufacturer's current route and confirm the chosen dealer's scope for your bike before travelling.

Ask whether to bring the key, display, charger or other removable equipment. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for handling and transport. Do not open a battery or approve an improvised electrical fix based on a general cycling article. If the bike has been damaged in a crash, make that clear at intake rather than booking only a tyre replacement and assuming the rest has been checked.

Useful phrases for the job ticket

  • Proszę najpierw o wycenę. Please give me a quote first.
  • Czy cena obejmuje części i robociznę? Does the price include parts and labour?
  • Proszę zadzwonić przed wymianą dodatkowych części. Please call before replacing additional parts.
  • Czy diagnostyka jest płatna, jeśli zrezygnuję z naprawy? Is diagnosis charged if I decline the repair?
  • Kiedy rower będzie gotowy do odbioru? When will the bike be ready for collection?

If spoken Polish is difficult, show the phrases on your phone and ask for the amount, scope and completion estimate in writing. Keep a copy of the ticket. A translation can help start the conversation, but it is easier to resolve a misunderstanding when both sides can refer to the same recorded instruction.

Collection and unresolved problems

At collection, ask the mechanic to explain the completed work and any remaining issue. Compare it with the approved quote. Obtain a receipt and the terms of any service guarantee. Check the agreed functions in a safe setting before returning to traffic. If a brake or steering problem remains, stop using the bike and contact the workshop rather than treating a paid invoice as proof that it is safe.

If the repair appears faulty or the bill contains unapproved work, write to the business with the ticket, quote, photographs and a clear request. Preserve the evidence and describe the difference between what you approved and what happened. Do not assume every rule for returning newly bought goods applies unchanged to a repair service. UOKiK says local consumer ombudsmen offer free legal advice and help preparing complaint letters when you need assistance.

Frequently asked questions

What is a bicycle repair shop called in Polish?

Look for serwis rowerowy or naprawa rowerów. Describe the symptom and your bicycle setup before choosing a service package. Wymiana means replacement; regulacja means adjustment.

How much does puncture repair cost in Poland?

There is no national tariff in this guide. Named workshops publish different starting prices and distinguish wheel fastenings, internal hubs and chain guards. Ask for the actual total including the tube or tyre, labour and any extra work.

Does a bicycle service price include parts?

Not necessarily. Some checked operators explicitly exclude worn-part replacement or certain materials from service prices. Ask for a written breakdown and agree that additional parts require your approval.

Can any bicycle shop repair my e-bike?

Do not assume so. Confirm support for the exact drive system and generation. Manufacturer service information can identify suitable routes for electrical diagnosis and software work, separate from ordinary mechanical repairs.

Can I get free help with a repair complaint?

UOKiK says local consumer ombudsmen provide free legal advice and help writing complaints. First keep the intake ticket, quote, receipt and fault evidence, and explain the problem and requested remedy to the business.
