Watch Repairs in Poland: Batteries, Quotes and Water-Resistance Tests
The essentials: Search for zegarmistrz. Ask for a written quote for your exact watch, including the battery, seals and water-resistance test where appropriate. Keep the job ticket and test result; published starting prices are not a promise for every model.

A watch that stops after moving to Poland creates a small but awkward errand. You need someone who can open the case, fit the right battery and explain whether it is safe to wear in water afterward. Searching for a watch shop alone may bring up retailers rather than a repair counter. The useful Polish word is zegarmistrz, a watchmaker.
This guide covers ordinary watch servicing, battery replacement, straps and repair quotes. It is not a technical diagnosis of your watch or a ranking of repair shops. The business prices below are examples from their own published pages, checked on 27 October 2026, not a Polish national tariff. Your model, its condition and the work actually included can change the bill.
Ask for the right job
For a battery, ask for wymiana baterii w zegarku. For a water-resistance check, ask for test szczelności or próba szczelności. A strap is a pasek, a metal bracelet a bransoleta, and shortening the bracelet is skrócenie bransolety. A repair is naprawa zegarka; a service or inspection may be described as serwis or przegląd.
Say what happened rather than deciding the cause yourself: the watch stopped, loses time, has condensation under the glass, or the clasp no longer closes. Bring its model details and any service paperwork. If a watch has sentimental value, say so before agreeing to polishing, replacement hands or other changes that affect its appearance. Ask which parts will be retained and which would be replaced.
For a complicated watch, start with the manufacturer's instructions and service route. Seiko's own battery FAQ recommends an authorised service centre or appointed dealer and a genuine Seiko battery. That is Seiko's advice for its watches, not proof that every independent shop is unsuitable. Ask a workshop whether it handles your exact brand and type, and whether work is done there or sent elsewhere.
Published prices: compare the package, not the headline
Zegarownia's service page lists battery replacement without a tightness test at 25 zł, and with a test at 29 zł. It also lists bracelet shortening at 19 zł and strap or bracelet replacement at 9 zł, excluding the strap or bracelet itself. The page calls its service prices indicative and says replacement parts are charged separately where required. Confirm what applies to your actual watch before leaving it.
The Masarska salon page at Zegarmistrz.com lists battery replacement from 39 zł and replacement with a tightness test from 149 zł. Its mechanical-watch entries include inspection and maintenance from 399 zł. These are starting prices, not a promise for every model. The page says the exact quote follows inspection and is given before the work. It also carries a website-migration notice, another reason to confirm directly rather than rely on a saved screenshot alone.
Zegarki.pl gives an indicative 55-145 zł range for a small service such as a battery replacement plus tightness test. It says its displayed amounts are gross prices, exclude shipping and are followed by a precise estimate after diagnosis. Chronos in Chorzów instead describes battery work at 85-240 zł, depending on the battery, case opening and closing difficulty, and the case's intended tightness class. It lists some seals and other components as additional charges.
These differences do not establish which business is cheapest for your watch. One package may include inspections or seal work another does not; a starting price may exclude the part your watch needs. Ask for the battery, labour, seals, test, diagnosis, shipping and any other charge in one written total. Also ask whether inspection costs anything if you decline the repair. Do not authorise an open-ended repair just because a counter displays a low battery price.
A new battery is not a swimming guarantee
Opening a watch and replacing its power source is different from checking its protection against water. In the instructions for Seiko's 8T61, 8T63 and 8T67 models, the manufacturer says opening the case back can affect the original water-resistant quality when it is closed again. It advises requesting a water-resistance test with battery replacement, particularly for watches rated at 10 bar or above. Follow your own model's instructions rather than transferring that model-specific guidance unchanged.
Ask the workshop what test it will perform and whether you will receive the result. Chronos describes a documented test and explains that a successful check is not an unlimited guarantee of water resistance. Its service terms distinguish the test from its separate conditions for giving a water-resistance guarantee. This matters if a watch has worn seals, damaged buttons or an ageing crown: a fresh battery does not repair every possible entry point.
Tell the watchmaker if you intend to swim with the watch. Ask what use is appropriate after the work, including any limitations, rather than interpreting a pressure number yourself. If it fails a check, get a quote for the next step and keep it away from water until the problem has been assessed. If moisture is already visible inside, describe that fault at intake instead of ordering only a battery change.

Make a clear handover record
Photograph the watch before handing it over, including the face, back, bracelet and existing scratches. Keep those images privately. Ask for a receipt or job ticket naming the watch, the reported fault, any accessories left with it and the agreed work. For a valuable item, ask how the workshop records identifying details and how it handles storage and return. Do not leave your only record of the agreement in a conversation you cannot later recover.
A practical instruction is to request diagnosis first and no additional work without approval. Ask for the estimate and likely completion date in writing. Clarify whether a date is a firm collection appointment or an estimate that depends on parts arriving. Zegarki.pl says complicated repairs can take up to 90 days when extra parts must be sourced. That is its stated possibility, not the standard wait for a simple battery replacement elsewhere.
Decide in advance whether you want cosmetic work. A request to get a watch running again is not necessarily permission to polish the case or replace visible original parts. If you want only functional work, put that on the job ticket. Ask what happens if inspection reveals a different fault, and set a point at which the workshop must contact you rather than continue spending your money.
Useful Polish at the counter
- Proszę najpierw o wycenę. Please give me a quote first.
- Czy cena obejmuje baterię, uszczelkę i test szczelności? Does the price include the battery, seal and tightness test?
- Proszę nie wykonywać dodatkowych prac bez mojej zgody. Please do not carry out extra work without my agreement.
- Czy dostanę wynik testu? Will I receive the test result?
- Kiedy zegarek będzie gotowy do odbioru? When will the watch be ready for collection?
Show the phrases on your phone if pronunciation is difficult. If you do not understand the reply, ask the person to write the amount and scope on the ticket. A translated conversation is useful, but the final written agreement is easier to check than a hurried exchange across a counter.
Sending a watch instead of visiting
Zegarownia advertises both in-person delivery to its salons and courier delivery, but asks customers to contact it before sending a watch to discuss likely cost and time. Follow the receiving business's current instructions. Do not post an expensive watch to a street address copied from an old directory without confirmation that the service accepts it there.
Before sending, confirm the recipient, reference number, packing instructions, delivery charges and return arrangements. Check the carrier's actual conditions and insurance exclusions for your item and value. Keep photographs, the dispatch receipt and tracking details. Ask whether a quote can be declined, what diagnosis then costs, and who pays return transport. A published workshop service price should not be mistaken for the whole door-to-door cost.
Collection, faults and consumer help
At collection, compare the work with your ticket. Check the time setting, clasp and any function the workshop agreed to repair. Ask for the invoice or receipt, test documentation if promised, and the written terms of any repair guarantee. A watch appearing to run at the counter does not by itself prove that every claimed performance check has been completed.
If the problem persists or new damage appears, record it promptly and complain to the business in writing. Describe the original order, what is wrong and the remedy you are requesting. Keep the watch, paperwork and photographs available. Do not assume a repair-service dispute follows every rule for returning newly bought goods. UOKiK says local consumer ombudsmen offer free legal advice and help with complaint letters. Use that route if the business does not settle the issue or the legal position is unclear.
Frequently asked questions
What is a watch repair shop called in Polish?
Search for zegarmistrz or naprawa zegarków. For a battery ask for wymiana baterii w zegarku. Confirm that the workshop handles your exact model and whether a water-resistance test is included.
How much does a watch battery replacement cost in Poland?
There is no national tariff in this guide. The named operators publish different starting prices or ranges and include different work. Ask for an individual total covering battery, labour, seals, testing and any diagnosis or delivery charges.
Does replacing the battery make my watch waterproof?
No. A battery replacement is not the same as a water-resistance check or a guarantee. Follow your model instructions, ask what testing is included and get the result and limitations in writing before exposing the watch to water.
Can I send a watch for repair by courier?
Some operators, including Zegarownia, advertise this option. Contact the service first to confirm acceptance, the delivery address, packing, diagnosis costs and return arrangements. Check the carrier conditions for the actual item and value.
Who can help with a watch repair complaint?
Complain to the business with the job ticket, photographs and a clear explanation of the fault and requested remedy. UOKiK says local consumer ombudsmen provide free advice and help writing complaint letters.
