Window Blinds in Poland: Measurements, Fitting and Custom Orders
The essentials: Choose the product and mounting method before approving dimensions. Check window clearance and rental permission, ask about child-safe operation and the complete visit price, and confirm the custom-order cancellation position before paying.

A blind that looks right online can still be wrong for a Polish flat. It may prevent the window from tilting, leave an unexpected strip of light beside the fabric, or require fixing into a surface the landlord does not want altered. Start with the window, the room and the installation method before choosing a colour.
Useful Polish search terms include rolety for roller blinds, żaluzje for slatted blinds, plisy for pleated blinds, pomiar for measurement and montaż for fitting. This guide covers internal window coverings and the service agreement around them. External shutters, façade work and electrical installation need their own checks and are not a DIY extension of this advice.
Write the room's requirements before choosing a system
Decide which problem you want to solve: reducing glare at a desk, gaining evening privacy, darkening a bedroom or simply softening daylight. Tell the supplier which matters most. “Privacy,” “light-filtering” and “blackout” should not be treated as interchangeable promises about the finished room.
For example, IKEA's Polish SKOGSKLÖVER page describes the product as filtering outside light. That is not a claim that it will black out a bedroom. Ask to see the actual fabric sample and an explanation of what the whole installation achieves, including gaps around the sides and the space above or below the covering.
Photograph the window from inside, including the handle, hinges, surrounding wall, sill and any vents. Mention a balcony door, a sloping roof window or an unusually shaped opening early. Ask how you will operate the window and covering together. A good-looking fabric sample cannot answer whether the assembled system will clear the handle or allow the opening movement you use.
In a rental, agree alterations before ordering
Check the tenancy agreement and ask the landlord to confirm the proposed fixing method where permission is unclear. Describe the exact change: drilling into a wall, ceiling or window frame; adhesive strips; or brackets attached to an opening sash. Do not reduce the question to “Can I put up blinds?” if the answer depends on where holes or adhesive marks would remain.
Ask whether existing fittings should stay, who owns the new covering and what condition is expected when you leave. Keep the answer with the installation quote and photographs of the original condition. This is practical documentation, not a claim that every rental in Poland has the same approval rule.
The Polish phrase montaż bezinwazyjny is a useful lead when looking for systems marketed as non-invasive. It is not proof of compatibility with your frame, a promise that removal leaves no marks, or a substitute for checking the tenancy terms. Ask the installer to explain the attachment and removal process for the actual product.
Choose the product before taking final measurements
There is no single measurement recipe for all blinds. KupRolety's measurement page explicitly says each product requires its own method. Its instructions distinguish cassette blinds, free-hanging rollers, day-and-night systems, pleated blinds, slatted blinds and other constructions, with diagrams showing different reference points.
That matters because “window width” could mean the glass, the glass with glazing beads, the recess, the fabric or the finished unit including its mechanism. A number can be accurately measured and still be the wrong number for the order. Identify the product and mounting option first, then use that supplier's current diagram.
KupRolety asks customers to enter measurements without their own corrections because it allows for technical clearances during production. Dawart's instructions, meanwhile, include allowances for particular blind and mounting arrangements. These are not contradictory universal rules to average together. They show why copying an allowance from one guide into another supplier's configurator can cause a mistake.
Keep dimensions labelled by window and product, with units. Before approving a made-to-measure order, ask who is responsible for the final dimensions and what the entered width represents. If the supplier measures on site, obtain the written specification rather than assuming a visit transfers every possible fitting risk.
Check clearance, fixing and operation together
Ask the fitter to demonstrate the proposed position and discuss the window's full opening and tilting movements. Check the handle, sill, adjacent cupboard and balcony-door use. If a blind stacks or rolls above the opening, ask how much room the actual system needs rather than relying on a generic figure.
Wall and ceiling fixings also depend on the surface. IKEA's SKOGSKLÖVER information says different wall and ceiling materials require different fixings and that suitable fixings are bought separately. A product price or a photograph of brackets does not establish that the correct anchors for your flat are included.
Tell the installer if you do not know the substrate or what is behind the intended fixing area. Ask for a suitable installation plan rather than improvising with whatever screws are available. Keep ventilation openings and normal window use in the discussion; a new covering should not quietly change how you are expected to use the room.
Make child safety part of the specification
Ask about the operating mechanism at the same time as colour and size, especially in a home used by children. IKEA's Polish blinds category explains its move away from dangling cords towards cordless or concealed-cord designs, and the SKOGSKLÖVER product description specifically says it has no cord.
Do not infer that every product sold as a blind uses that design. Ask the supplier to identify the mechanism, any required safety device and the manufacturer's fitting and use instructions. Have the installer explain the completed arrangement. A photograph, a short online description or the absence of a visible cord in one picture is not a safety assessment.
For an existing corded system, do not improvise a repair or remove safety components to make it easier to operate. Seek the maker's instructions or a qualified supplier's advice about a suitable correction or replacement. This guide does not provide a safe cord length or certify a particular installation.

Ask for the complete price and visit terms
Get a written quote covering the product, fabric and colour code, dimensions, mechanism, fittings, measurement, travel, installation and tax. Ask whether removal of old coverings, disposal, unusual access or a return visit would cost extra. For several windows, request separate line items so a change to one does not make the whole order unclear.
Do not assume a measurement appointment is free or that a price estimate obliges nobody to anything. MOSKIROLET's published information describes travel charges in some circumstances and a consultation charge if the customer does not order during measurement, with a later deduction if an order follows. Those are that provider's terms, not national rules.
Before accepting a visit, ask what happens if you decline the quote, change the product or need another measurement. Before paying a deposit, confirm when the specification becomes final, what changes remain possible and whether the fitting date is confirmed or estimated. Keep a copy of the version you actually approved.
Do not assume custom blinds have an ordinary return window
UOKiK's consumer guidance says distance and off-premises purchases generally have withdrawal rights, but lists exceptions. One concerns non-prefabricated goods made to the consumer's specification or to meet individual needs. Made-to-measure window coverings need a careful check against that exception before you order.
Ask the seller to state the cancellation and return position for your exact order, including the effect of custom dimensions and when production starts. Do not assume that paying online automatically gives you an unconditional return option if the size or colour disappoints you. UOKiK also notes that ordinary change-of-mind returns in traditional shops depend on the seller's policy.
Keep change of mind separate from a problem with the supplied product or installation. A custom-order withdrawal exception does not by itself settle a complaint about an incorrect specification, faulty mechanism or disputed fitting. Retain the order, diagrams, invoice and correspondence, and get consumer advice if the disagreement cannot be resolved.
Check the finished installation before closing the job
Compare the installed covering with the written specification. Check the fabric and colour code, control side, finish and each window's operation. Ask the fitter to demonstrate raising, lowering, stopping and any other intended movement. Inspect the surrounding surfaces and record unresolved points promptly with photographs.
Request the instructions for this material and mechanism. MOSKIROLET's downloads separate cleaning and use documents for different products, including pleated, wooden and fabric blinds. Do not assume instructions for one material allow washing or soaking another. Ask which actions could damage the finish or mechanism and when professional help is needed.
Finally, identify who handles product faults and who handles installation problems. MOSKIROLET distinguishes manufacturer product guarantees from its fitting guarantee for some supplied brands. Ask your provider for its own duration, exclusions, contact route and required evidence. Keep those details with the receipt so a future problem does not start with guessing who fitted the blind.
Frequently asked questions
What should I search for in Polish?
Rolety are roller blinds, żaluzje are slatted blinds and plisy are pleated blinds. Add pomiar for measurement and montaż for fitting.
Can I use the same measurements for every supplier?
No. Choose the exact product and mounting method, then follow that supplier’s diagram. Clarify whether the order size means fabric, glass, recess or finished unit.
Does non-invasive mounting guarantee no marks?
Do not assume so. Ask how the specific attachment fits your window and how it is removed, and check rental permission where unclear.
Can I return made-to-measure blinds if I change my mind?
Check before ordering. UOKiK lists an exception to withdrawal rights for non-prefabricated goods made to individual specifications. Complaints about faults are a separate question.
Is a measurement visit always free?
No. Ask about travel, consultation, repeat-visit and cancellation charges before accepting the appointment. Provider terms differ.
