Aktywni Rodzice w Pracy: Poland's 1,500 zł Benefit for Working Parents

Short answer: Aktywni rodzice w pracy pays 1,500 zl a month per child aged 12-35 months to insured working parents in Poland, if the child does not attend nursery. Couples need a combined contribution base of at least the minimum wage, each parent at least half.

Poland pays working parents of toddlers 1,500 zl a month - but only if the child stays home. The swiadczenie aktywni rodzice w pracy ("active parents at work" benefit) is part of the Aktywny Rodzic programme run by ZUS, and the rules trip up many expat families. As of October 14, 2026, this is how it works, per the official ZUS guidance.

Who can get it

The benefit goes to a professionally active parent (mother or father) who lives with the child and supports them, an actual guardian who has filed for adoption, a foster family, or a person running a family children's home. Foreign parents working in Poland qualify on the same terms - the condition is your insurance, not your citizenship. One exception: Ukrainian citizens with UKR status who arrived because of the war are excluded from this particular benefit.

The benefit is paid for each child aged 12 to 35 months - precisely, from the first day of the month in which the child turns 12 months until the last day of the month before the child turns 36 months. It is granted on application to ZUS.

The amount

  • 1,500 zl per month per child,
  • 1,900 zl per month if the child has a disability certificate with the specific indications of needing constant or long-term care and the carer's daily participation in treatment, rehabilitation and education.

The monthly amount is indivisible: you receive it in full even if the right arises or ends mid-month.

The catch: no nursery

The benefit is not paid if the child attends a zlobek (nursery), przedszkole (kindergarten), klub dzieciecy (children's club) or is looked after by a dzienny opiekun (day caregiver). It is designed for families where a child under three is cared for at home while both parents stay economically active. Families using subsidised nursery places instead should look at the "aktywnie w zlobku" subsidy - see our nursery guide.

The work condition

You must be "professionally active", which ZUS reads as being covered by pension and disability insurance. That includes:

  • an employment contract (umowa o prace),
  • zlecenie and similar civil-law contracts,
  • running a business (including preferential-rate and ulga na start periods),
  • farmers insured with KRUS, uniformed services, clergy, MPs and several other categories,
  • people currently on maternity allowance, sick pay, care allowance or rehabilitation benefit (the pre-benefit contribution base counts).

Then comes the earnings floor, measured by your contribution base:

  • Raising the child together: the parents' combined contribution base must be at least 100% of the minimum wage, and each parent's individual base must be at least 50% of the minimum wage - or 30% for a business on preferential terms (preferencyjne skladki, ulga na start, maly ZUS plus).
  • Raising the child alone: your base must be at least 100% of the minimum wage.

With the 2026 minimum wage at 4,806 zl gross (see our minimum wage guide), that means: each parent in a couple needs a contribution base of at least 2,403 zl (1,441.80 zl on preferential business terms), together at least 4,806 zl; a single parent needs at least 4,806 zl. A part-time zlecenie below the 50% floor fails the test for that parent.

Breaks and losing the condition

If you or your co-parent stop meeting the work condition - a lost job, a dropped contract - the benefit does not stop immediately. It is paid until the end of the following month after the month in which the condition was lost. You can use this grace rule twice during the child's eligibility window.

How to apply

Applications go to ZUS, electronically through PUE/eZUS. Only the eligible persons listed above can apply. For the disability top-up you enter the certificate number in the application; ZUS pulls the certificate data from the ministry's system itself.

The benefit stacks with the universal 800+ child benefit - see our 800+ guide for foreign parents - because it rewards work, not need.
