Gdańsk Zoo in Oliwa: Tickets, Winter Hours and Getting There

The essentials: Gdańsk Zoo opens every day. October-March tickets cost 30 zł ordinary or 20 zł concession; in November-February entry ends at 14:00 and visiting at 15:00. A family ticket requires at least two children, and disability discounts require Polish-issued documents.

Gdańsk Zoo in Oliwa is an outdoor day out with animal houses along the way, not a single indoor attraction beside the main railway station. That distinction matters most in winter, when entry ends early and some families discover that the walk from Oliwa is longer than expected. A useful first visit starts with the season, the correct gate and a realistic plan for the people coming with you.

The current operator information makes several points unusually clear: the zoo opens every day, including holidays; ordinary visits do not need reservations; family tickets have a specific definition; and foreign disability documents do not qualify for the published disability discounts. Those details can change the cost or feasibility of a visit. This guide uses the zoo's current visitor pages, not a personal visit or a promise that particular animals will be visible.

Winter admission ends at 14:00

In November and December, the zoo opens at 09:00, admission and the ticket offices close at 14:00, and visiting ends at 15:00. January and February have the same pattern. An online ticket does not create a later entry window. If you want time to walk and use the animal houses, arrive well before the final admission time rather than treating 14:00 as the beginning of a normal afternoon outing.

October has a longer day: entry is 09:00-16:00 and visiting ends at 17:00. May through September run 09:00-18:00 for entry, with visiting until 19:00. March and April have separate weekday and weekend/holiday arrangements, so inspect the month-specific table for a spring visit. Do not copy summer hours into a winter plan simply because a search result describes the zoo as open throughout the year.

The lion and giraffe houses and the birds-and-reptiles pavilion open at 09:00 and close half an hour before the garden. This gives a winter visitor another deadline inside the main deadline. If an animal house is your priority, do not leave it until the last few minutes outdoors. Opening every day means the attraction is available across the week, not that every part remains open until the final exit time.

Ordinary prices change with the season

The current October-March tariff is 30 zł for ordinary admission and 20 zł for concession admission. April-September prices are 45 zł and 35 zł. The operator warns that prices may change, so use its dedicated tariff page when budgeting rather than a third-party city guide. You can pay by cash or card at the ticket office; the machines sell ordinary, concession and family tickets with card payment only.

Children under three qualify for free entry, but still need a free admission ticket. The operator makes those available at the desks and online and asks for proof of the child's age. That is different from assuming a toddler can simply accompany an adult through the gate without any ticket. Concession categories include children aged three to seven, school pupils, students up to 26 and qualifying pensioners or retirees, with the relevant documents.

A family ticket costs 90 zł in October-March and 140 zł in April-September. Its definition is important: a group of up to five people, with at least two children under 18 and no more than two parents or carers. Two adults with one child should therefore not assume they qualify. Compare the actual party against the published definition before choosing the bundle, particularly if some children qualify for free entry or a different documented discount.

Disability discounts have a document restriction

The tariff lists free entry for certain disability categories and specified carers, with concessions for others. It also explicitly says that these disability discounts and entitlements are available only on the basis of valid disability decisions or cards issued by authorised bodies in Poland. Documents issued outside Poland are not accepted as the basis for those entitlements. A foreign resident should not be told that any international disability card will work here.

If this affects your party, check the exact category and evidence with the zoo before buying. The adult visitor's ticket and a carer's entitlement are separate questions, and the rules for a child with a disability include specific documentation conditions. This guide cannot determine eligibility from a diagnosis or a generic description of support needs. Bring the accepted documents and choose the right ticket rather than relying on an assumption at the gate.

A price entitlement is also not an accessibility assessment. Someone can hold a qualifying document but still need route information, or pay ordinary admission while needing a particular physical arrangement. Ask about the practical route, distances and facilities separately from the discount. The fact that the car park has designated spaces does not establish that every path or viewing position will suit every mobility device.

Choose a ticket channel without confusing it with a booking

The zoo says ordinary visits do not require reservations. Tickets are sold at the desks, in machines, through QR-code links posted at designated points and through the official online shop. Online purchase can save a ticket-office transaction, but keep the current opening and last-entry hours in mind. A ticket purchase and an educational booking are different things; do not assume a workshop, ride or other additional activity comes with ordinary admission.

For visitors returning frequently, the published named annual ticket costs 150 zł ordinary or 120 zł concession and lasts a year from purchase. Gdańsk resident-card holders can also investigate the separate Pakiet Gdańskiego Lwa, currently listed at 90 zł ordinary or 70 zł concession. That requires the relevant valid resident card and an added package. Living in Gdańsk alone is not the same as already having that benefit activated.

An occasional visitor does not need to work through every annual product before buying one day's entry. Start with the date and party, then consider repeat-visit options only if you expect to use them. Check the current terms for names, photographs, validity and accepted concession evidence. A cheaper-looking long-term product is not useful if it does not match your eligibility or the number of visits you will actually make.

Oliwa station is a starting point, not the entrance

The zoo's address is ul. Karwieńska 3. The operator gives approximately 2.3 km for the walk from central Oliwa to the zoo. If arriving on the SKM railway, it directs visitors to Gdańsk Oliwa station, but that does not mean the remaining journey is a short walk around the corner. Decide whether the party wants that walk before using it as the default connection, especially with limited daylight or tired children.

The current directions list bus 169 as a year-round service on the Oliwa-Zoo-Owczarnia route. Other listed connections are seasonal: 622 in summer, and G on summer weekends and holidays. Check a current journey planner for the actual day and departure point. A seasonal bus number should not become a winter promise, and a zoo admission ticket should not be assumed to include public transport.

The main entrance, ticket desks and machines operate throughout the year. The entrance on the parking side is seasonal, between May and September, with a more limited pattern in some of those months. If you arrive outside that period, follow the main-entrance arrangement rather than assuming the nearest gate is open. The correct gate can matter as much as the final bus stop when planning an arrival with someone who needs to minimise walking.

Parking is a separate cost

The car park is on Karwieńska, approximately 300 metres before the zoo entrance. The published rates are 7 zł per hour for a car or motorcycle and 30 zł for the day, with the day rate also applying to coaches. Read the posted terms when you arrive, since parking operation is separate from animal admission. Do not assume that buying a family ticket includes parking or removes the need to pay at the machine.

The operator lists ten designated spaces for visitors with disabilities near the car-park exit and says they are subject to the standard parking charge. This is an easy detail to miss if you are used to a different city's parking rules. Payment at the machine is by contactless card or coins, and it does not give change. The operator also describes payment through APCOA FLOW. Choose the method that works for you and keep evidence of payment.

Allow for the walk between parking, the appropriate entrance and your first destination inside. A plan built only from the driving time can leave a party hurrying towards the ticket desk near the last-entry cutoff. For a longer visit, consider the day rate deliberately rather than repeatedly interrupting the walk to worry about the car. Recheck current charges and instructions on site before deciding.

Pack for a walking visit

Bikes, children's balance bikes, scooters, skates and skateboards are not allowed inside. You can cycle to the zoo, where the operator lists covered stands outside, but arriving by bike does not mean you can continue riding between enclosures. This matters for parents who normally use a balance bike to help a young child cover longer distances. Choose a different plan before entering rather than negotiating at the barrier.

The rules also prohibit bringing ordinary pets, balloons and drones, and prohibit feeding, frightening or disturbing the animals. Do not use an old photograph of someone close to an animal as an example of what is permitted today. Keep to the marked visiting route and respect barriers. A zoo visit is observation, not a promise of touching, feeding or staging an encounter for a photograph.

For a first visit, choose a few priorities and leave room for breaks. Winter can offer a different atmosphere, but it is still an outdoor visit with a short day and earlier pavilion closures. Check the current hours, ticket entitlement, route from Oliwa and gate arrangement before leaving. Those decisions make a more useful plan than expecting every animal to perform or trying to cover the whole site at one fixed pace.
