Shopping for a bra in a new country is harder than it should be. The size on the tag is different from the one you know, the sales conversation happens in a language you may not speak, and the shop's range is organized around a sizing logic you have never seen. Warsaw is actually one of the easiest places in Europe to solve this problem: the city has a mature professional fitting scene, Polish brands produce some of the widest size ranges in the world, and English gets you surprisingly far. This guide explains the sizing system, where to go, what it costs, and the handful of phrases that cover the rest.

Polish bra sizes: centimetres, not inches

Poland uses the continental European system. The band is your underbust measurement in centimetres, rounded to the nearest five: 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90 and so on. The cup letter describes the difference between your bust and underbust measurements, just as it does elsewhere.

If you come from the UK or US system, the band converts at roughly 2.54 cm per inch, which lands neatly on the European steps: a UK/US 34 band is about 86 cm of underbust snug measurement, which corresponds to a European 75 band. A UK 32 is an EU 70, a UK 36 is an EU 80, and so on. France, Belgium and Spain use yet another convention that adds 15 to the centimetre band, so an EU 75B is a French 90B. If you shop online from French or Spanish retailers, expect that third number.

Cup letters mostly align across systems up to about D or DD. Beyond that they diverge, and this is where conversion charts start to lie. Polish full-bust brands use extended cup progressions, and a UK FF is not the same letter sequence as a Polish H. The practical advice: treat any converted size as a starting point, not an answer, and let a fitter confirm it. Your size also changes with weight, hormones and time, so a measurement taken in Warsaw beats a conversion from a size you bought three years ago.

What brafitting is and why Poland is good at it

Brafitting is a professional fitting service: a trained fitter (a *brafitterka*) measures you, assesses your shape and posture, and brings you a series of models chosen for both, adjusting as she goes. Poland has an unusually developed brafitting culture, and Warsaw has dedicated salons where fitting is the whole point of the visit, not an awkward add-on in a department store.

A concrete example of how it works in practice. Dopasowana, a brafitting salon at ul. Okrzei 35 in Praga Północ, runs the process like this: you book online in advance, the visit is one-on-one with a fitter in a private fitting room, and it lasts about an hour. The fitting service itself costs 0 zł and carries no obligation to buy. The salon reports 10,085 fittings completed in 2025 and holds a 4.9 rating from 1,709 Google reviews. It stocks more than 30 lingerie brands.

Prices there, as a realistic benchmark for the specialist-salon tier: everyday bras 259-409 zł, sports bras 349-495 zł, occasion bras 329-450 zł, nursing bras from 259 zł, first bras for teenagers from 179 zł, and swimwear fittings with pieces from 349 to 529 zł. Specialist salon prices are higher than mall chains, and the difference buys the fitting, the range, and construction that holds a fuller bust.

Polish brands worth knowing

Poland is a genuine lingerie manufacturing country, and its full-bust brands are exported worldwide. The best known is Ewa Michalak, a Polish brand offering one of the widest bra size ranges in the world: bands from 60 to 140 and cups from AA to P on selected models. Its bras sell for around 499 zł. Other established Polish manufacturers you will meet in salons and shops include Kris Line, Gaia, Gorteks, Kinga, Samanta and Comexim. Buying Polish brands in Poland means full size runs in stock and prices below what importers charge abroad.

Mall chains and budget options

Every large Warsaw mall - Złote Tarasy, Westfield Arkadia, Galeria Mokotów, Westfield Mokotów's neighbours along the main arteries - hosts the international chains: Triumph, Intimissimi, Etam, Oysho and Hunkemöller among them. Their size ranges are narrower than the specialist salons, typically covering the middle of the band and cup spectrum, but prices are lower and browsing needs no appointment. For budget basics, Sinsay and H&M sell simple bras from noticeably less, with self-service fitting rooms. Chain stores in central malls are also where you are most likely to be served in English without asking, especially by younger staff.

The language part: booking and shopping in English

Specialist salons are the easiest entry point precisely because they work by appointment: you book through an online form, so the first contact happens in writing, where you can use English and a translator if needed. Warsaw brafitting salons regularly serve international clients, and a salon that books online will answer a message written in English.

In shops, open with the question that settles everything:

  • Czy mówi Pani po angielsku? - Do you speak English? (Addressed to a woman; to a man, *Czy mówi Pan po angielsku?*)
  • Chciałabym umówić się na dopasowanie. - I would like to book a fitting. (A man says *Chciałbym*.)
  • Czy macie to w innym rozmiarze? - Do you have this in another size?
  • Za duże / za małe. - Too big / too small.
  • Ile to kosztuje? - How much does it cost?

Useful vocabulary for reading tags and talking to staff: *rozmiar* (size), *miseczka* (cup), *obwód* (band, the number), *przymierzalnia* (fitting room), *biustonosz* (bra), *majtki* (knickers), *bielizna* (lingerie, the word on shop signs).

Returns and online orders

If you order online from a Polish or EU shop, the EU Consumer Rights Directive gives you 14 days to withdraw from the purchase without giving a reason. There is a hygiene exception: sealed goods that are not suitable for return for health or hygiene reasons once unsealed can be excluded, which is why some shops refuse returns of briefs while accepting bras. Check the shop's returns page before ordering. In physical stores, returns and exchanges are a matter of the shop's own goodwill policy, not a statutory right, so ask before you pay if you are unsure about the size.

When the sales happen

Polish retail runs two main clearance seasons: winter sales (*wyprzedaże*) start right after Christmas and deepen through January, and summer sales run from late June through July. Lingerie chains follow the same calendar, and this is when last season's colours drop by 30-50 percent. Specialist salons discount less and rarely on the fitting service, but end-of-line models do appear. If your size is common, sale season is worth the wait; if it is rare, buy when you find it, because extended sizes sell out first and are restocked last.

A practical plan for your first visit

If you have never been professionally fitted, book a salon appointment rather than starting in a mall. The fitting is free at the benchmark salon above, takes about an hour, and leaves you knowing your Polish size, your shape, and which constructions work for you - knowledge you can then spend at any price point, in any chain, in any country that uses European sizing. If you already know your size and just need everyday basics, the mall chains will do the job without an appointment. Either way, you will not need much Polish: sizes are numbers, and numbers need no translation.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a brafitting appointment cost in Warsaw?

At Dopasowana the fitting itself is free (0 zł) with no obligation to buy; you pay only for what you take home. Lilu also advertises a free fitting consultation. Everyday bras in the specialist tier run 259-409 zł.

What is my Polish size if I wear a UK 34?

UK and US bands are inches; Polish bands are centimetres. A UK 34 corresponds to a European 75, a UK 32 to a 70, a UK 36 to an 80. Cup letters align up to about D and diverge above it, so treat the conversion as a starting point and confirm it with a fitting.

Do Warsaw shops carry sizes for fuller busts?

Yes. Poland is known internationally for full-bust bras. Ewa Michalak alone offers bands 60-140 and cups AA to P on selected models, and specialist salons stock Polish brands far beyond the mall chains' range.

Can I shop for lingerie in Warsaw without any Polish at all?

Yes. Book a salon appointment online in writing, open in-store conversations with *Czy mówi Pani po angielsku?*, and remember that sizes are numbers. Central mall chain staff, especially younger staff, commonly speak English.
