Gdańsk paid parking: zones, rates, fines, resident cards
Short answer: In Gdańsk's Main Town and Old Town you pay Monday to Sunday, 9:00 to 20:00. The first hour costs 7.50 zl downtown and 5.00 zl elsewhere. The fine is 300 zl, or 170 zl if paid fast.

Paid parking in Gdańsk works differently from most Polish cities, because in the historic centre you pay on weekends too. The system is run by the city road authority, Gdański Zarząd Dróg (GZD). It has two kinds of area: the Downtown Paid Parking Zone (Śródmiejska Strefa Płatnego Parkowania, ŚSPP) and the ordinary Paid Parking Zone (Strefa Płatnego Parkowania, SPP). This guide uses the official GZD and City of Gdańsk pages, read in October 2026. The latest rate list on the city site is the one in force since 1 February 2025, and a new zone in Strzyża starts on 2 November 2026.
Where and when you pay
According to GZD, the hours depend on the sector:
- Downtown zone (ŚSPP): the Main Town (Główne Miasto), the Old Town (Stare Miasto) and Długie Ogrody sectors are paid Monday to Sunday, 9:00 to 20:00.
- Ordinary zone (SPP): sectors such as Młode Miasto, Stare Przedmieście, Dolne Miasto and Wrzeszcz Politechnika are paid Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00.
So in the Main Town and Old Town you pay on Saturdays and Sundays, while in Dolne Miasto the weekend is free. A new sector, Nowe Ogrody (Kurkowa and Strzelecka streets), has been paid since 1 September 2026 on weekdays 9:00 to 17:00. GZD says its map is only illustrative, and the exact borders are set by a city council resolution.
The rates
The City of Gdańsk announced the current rates in January 2025, valid from 1 February 2025. The city said prices had not changed since 2020 and were raised by about 30% to keep cars turning over.
Ordinary zone (SPP):
- first hour 5.00 zl
- second hour 6.00 zl
- third hour 7.20 zl
- fourth and each next hour 5.00 zl
Downtown zone (ŚSPP):
- first hour 7.50 zl
- second hour 9.00 zl
- third hour 10.80 zl
- fourth and each next hour 7.50 zl
A minimum fee of 1 zl was also introduced. The new rates do not apply to the multi-storey car park on ul. Okopowa.

Cheaper for Gdańsk Card holders
The city says every holder of an active Gdańska Karta Mieszkańca (Gdańsk Resident Card) can use the first hour of parking at the old rate once a day. You add your car's registration number in the Card panel. The first hour then costs 3.90 zl in the SPP and 5.50 zl in the ŚSPP, and later hours follow the new rates. If you park a second time on the same day, the new price list applies. Our guide to the Gdańsk resident card explains how foreigners can get it.
Before you leave the car, check the sector sign and the hours. The same street rules apply to payment by parking meter and by mobile app, both of which GZD lists as ways to pay. Keep the confirmation until you have left the zone.
The additional fee
The additional fee for not paying rose from 200 zl to 300 zl on 1 February 2025. The city says you can still pay a lower amount if you pay within 14 days of receiving the notice, but not later than 60 days from the date the fee was issued. That lower amount is 170 zl since 1 February 2025, compared with 130 zl before.
Resident flat-rate cards
Residents registered in the zone can buy a flat-rate card (karta opłaty zryczałtowanej). The city says the price for one car did not change in 2025 and stays at 10 zl a month or 120 zl a year. For more cars the prices went up:
- Monthly: 10 zl for the first car, 20 zl for the second, 260 zl for the third.
- Yearly: 120 zl for the first car, 312 zl for the second, 3,120 zl for the third.
Business cards cost 195 zl a month or 1,170 zl a year. Monthly permits for anyone cost 715 zl for the SPP and 1,040 zl for the SPP and ŚSPP together. You can buy resident and commercial permits online on the GZD permit portal.
A new zone in Strzyża
The city announced on 30 September 2026 that from 2 November a paid zone will start in part of Strzyża, based on a city council resolution from 26 September 2024. It covers selected streets such as Szymanowskiego, Karłowicza, Chopina and Moniuszki. Streets west of Chrzanowskiego, including Ludowa and Kolberga, stay outside the zone. If you live or park there, check the new signs, which the city was installing in October.
