Rzeszów Christmas Market 2026: Dates, Hours and New Year
The essentials: Rzeszów's Christmas Town market runs from 4 December 2026 to 6 January 2027 on the main square. Entry is free; 2026 hours are pending (last season: Mon-Sat 13:00-21:00, Sun 11:00-21:00). It stays open between Christmas and New Year.

Most Polish Christmas markets wind down before Christmas Eve. Rzeszów does the opposite: its Świąteczne Miasteczko (Christmas Town) starts late, in early December, and keeps the festive season alive straight through New Year's Eve to Epiphany. For expats in the Podkarpacie region - or anyone spending the holidays in Poland and wondering what is open between Christmas and New Year - here is what is confirmed for the 2026/27 season.
Dates: 4 December 2026 to 6 January 2027
The organizer, Estrada Rzeszowska (the city's cultural institution), confirms the Christmas Town with its accompanying market runs from Friday 4 December 2026 to Wednesday 6 January 2027 on Rzeszów's Rynek, the main square. That makes Rzeszów the latest-starting market in our series - and the only one that keeps trading between Christmas and New Year, with a New Year's Eve party on the square in the background.
One important caveat: stall hours and the event programme for 2026/27 have not been published yet ("more information soon", per the organizer's page, checked 25 October 2026). Last season the market traded Monday-Saturday 13:00-21:00 and Sundays 11:00-21:00, was closed on Christmas Eve, ran partially on Christmas Day (the wheel, carousel and some food points) and fully on 26 December and 1 January (11:00-21:00). Treat those as a guide to the likely shape, not confirmed 2026 hours. Entry is free; you pay for rides and stalls.
A compact, family-first market
Rzeszów's Rynek is small and tight, with the 19th-century town hall facade in the middle and the Kościuszko monument alongside, so the Christmas Town has an intimate feel. The organizer's 2026 announcement promises workshops, concerts, artistic performances, shows, an ice rink, a funfair and Christmas installations for children and adults; the detailed list comes with the programme.
Last season (2025/26), the layout included a 10-metre Ferris wheel, a retro children's carousel and a smaller carousel, plus the biggest children's draw: the Domek Świętego Mikołaja (Santa's House), open 7-28 December with daily visiting hours and "Bajkosfery" fairy-tale sessions for the youngest. The square's Christmas tree stood over 16 metres with some 1,200 baubles and 15,000 LED lights, and the illuminations spread far beyond the Rynek - a second nativity scene on Kościuszki Street, reindeer photo points and a light gate on 3 Maja Street, and installations by the multimedia fountain, all lit until the end of January.

Food and shopping
The wooden huts sell crafts, Christmas decorations and regional products. For Podkarpacie flavour, look for proziaki (soda-raised flatbreads) alongside local honeys and cheeses. Last season two food points ran under the shared name HoHo - HoHo Bar and HoHo Bistro - serving grzaniec and sweets. Prices are not published.
The December programme (last season's shape)
The 2026/27 programme will appear closer to opening, but the previous season shows how Rzeszów celebrates - treat this list as the climate, not the confirmed schedule:
- Opening weekend with Santa: the ceremonial illumination switch-on at 17:00, the Rzeszów Santa Run, and a parade of St Nicholas with elves, stilt walkers, a brass band and majorettes from the multimedia fountain to the square.
- Motomikołajki: an entrance of Santa-hatted motorcyclists onto the Rynek, and a longest-Christmas-chain contest in the Rzeszowskie Piwnice cellars.
- Wigilia Miejska (City Christmas Eve, 18 December in 2025): carols by the Rzeszów University of Technology choir, the sharing of opłatek with Roman Catholic and Orthodox clergy, the Peace Light of Bethlehem brought by scouts, and traditional Christmas Eve dishes served under the town-hall arcades.
- Between the holidays: traditional carolling, gingerbread-decorating workshops and a dance party with a folk band.
- New Year's Eve on the Rynek with a DJ (a children's set first, then until 1:00).
- A retro weekend in early January: a classic-car meet and a vintage MPK bus.
The between-holidays gap, solved
For expats, the days from 27 to 31 December in Poland can feel oddly shut down: markets dismantled, offices half-closed, friends away. Rzeszów is the exception that fills the gap. Because the Christmas Town runs to Epiphany, the rides, food points and illuminations are there precisely when everywhere else has packed up - and New Year's Eve on the Rynek gives the city a public celebration that many Polish cities no longer stage. If you are hosting visiting family in that window, this is the easiest festive day out in the region: the train from Kraków takes about two hours, and the square concentrates everything (rides, food, lights, the town-hall carol) within a few hundred metres.
The late start also has a practical upside: while the big November markets are past their first freshness by mid-December, Rzeszów's season is just hitting its stride. The first weekend (5-6 December) traditionally opens with the illumination switch-on and Santa events, Mikołajki itself falls on Sunday 6 December 2026, and the build-up to the City Christmas Eve celebration carries the programme through mid-December.
Weather and what to wear
Podkarpacie in December is properly wintry - colder on average than Poland's west, with snow entirely possible and the square exposed to wind. Expect temperatures around -5 to 3°C, day length under eight hours, and cobbles that turn slick when wet. Dress for standing still rather than walking: a warm coat, hat and grippy waterproof boots matter more here than at markets where you keep moving between malls and cafes. The town-hall arcades and the cellar route below the square are the natural warm-up stops.
Getting there and practical tips
- From Rzeszów Główny station. The Rynek is about a 15-minute walk. From Kraków the train takes around two hours, so Rzeszów works as a day trip or a stop on the way to the Bieszczady. City buses are covered by Jakdojade; see our Rzeszów transport guide.
- Driving. The tight centre around the Rynek is largely pedestrianized and paid-parking spaces are scarce on December evenings; the simplest option is a shopping-centre car park a few minutes' walk away.
- Timing. If hours follow last season, stalls open at 13:00 on weekdays and 11:00 on Sundays - there is no morning market. Weekday late afternoons, as it gets dark, are the calmest slot; programme weekends are the busiest. Rzeszów's real advantage is the post-Christmas window: when every other market in this series has closed, this one is still running.
- With children. Wheel, carousels, Santa's House and photo walls all sit on one square. The Rynek is cobbled - with a stroller, keep to the edges along the tenements.
- Listen for the hejnał. Rzeszów's town-hall bugle call was composed by Tomasz Stańko, the jazz trumpeter born in the city - worth pausing for amid the market noise.
Make a weekend of it
For a second day, start at the Lubomirski Castle (the bastions and gate tower impress even from outside, and guided visits run on selected days), then the parish church with its 1427 Gothic chancel and the Bernardine basilica with its alabaster Ligęza figures. The Underground Tourist Route drops through nearly 400 metres of old merchants' cellars beneath the Rynek, and the Muzeum Dobranocek (a museum of Polish cartoon characters) is a hit with children. Łańcut Castle is under 20 km away. Our Rzeszów weekend guide has the full itinerary.
How it fits the 2026 season
